I'm looking at either a Duke 2 or Duke 3, currently undecided whether to go 'Best' or 'Two Band'.

I bowl lather, currently exclusively using ToBS cream. I love the cream, it works very well for me and apart from trying different scents, I see no reason to change what I'm doing.

So given what I do, which would you choose, Duke 2 or 3 and Best or Two Band?

The Duke is a great brush by Simpson. I have a Duke 2 in Best. I've also owned a Simpson 2-Band and find them to be a bit scritchy for my taste. I think their Best grade is the way to go. If you want something with a bit more backbone, maybe consider a Chubby.

Now, for the size. Like I said, I have the 2. I only use it to face lather and it's great with either soaps or creams. I suspect the 3 would be too. Since you are a bowl latherer, specifically, I would HIGHLY encourage you to go with the Duke 3 in Best. Let us know what you decide!

Of the two sizes- get the duke 3.

think for bowl lathering you may appreciate the colonel x2l as it has a longer handle.

I voted for Duke 3 Best mostly for the cost difference between the best and 2 band. If money were no object or they were the same price I would go with the 2 band, but unfortunately I live in reality.

I don't live in reality, so i got the 3 two-band. Such a nice brush, soft tips and nice backbone. And really pretty:) Haven't tried the others, but you will not regret.

The decision may have been made for me! Nowhere seems to have the Duke 3 in Two Band in stock but a supplier just five miles from me has it in Best...

A Duke 3 2-band was at the top of my list until the beginning of the month when the price went from $157 to "out of my reach". My next brush will be a 2-band, but not Simpson and I say that as a fan of Simpson brushes. As far as a Duke 2 in Best, I sold mine because I liked my Rover better, both knot and handle. If you only bowl lather, I say go Duke 3 as the handle is a little larger.

And ta-da!

My favorite brush in my collection is the Duke 3 in 2-band Super. Amazing for face lathering but also big enough to bowl lather. Perfect knot size with amazingly soft tips. Breaks in wonderfully and is a true joy to use. If I weren't such a collector I would sell everything and this would be my one brush. Nothing has dethroned it yet and I have some amazing brushes. ;)

You have made an EXCELLENT choice with the 3. Enjoy it!

Any duke is a good duke I have a duke 2 and love it but my hands aren't very big and it just fits my hand like a glove I love it!

It's going to be sitting in this lather for the next 15 hours or so as part of the break-in, really going to have to be patient before I use it tomorrow morning.
