Which DE Safety Razors are closest in agressivness to a Bic Sensitive?

I am new to DE Shaving and I have a tough beard with sensitive skin. The best single blade shave (or any shave) that I have had to date was from a Bic Sensitive Disposable. I simply will not pay for gillette mach 3 or fusion blades any more and do not wish to through away or recycle plastic.

Please respond only if you have shaved with a Bic Sensitive and love the results. Please list and expand on any DE Safety Razors that come closest to Bic Sensitives in agressivness, quality of resulting shave, and lack of irritation. I am willing to make a few extra passes to get the closest shave with least irritation.

Thanks Everyone!

Thanks, very helpful! I was looking at Gillette Techs and clones that can be obtained new ie. feather portable. I just like to learn from other's experience.

Spinyeel,

To ease my transition from mach 3s I bought a $7 Fromm replaceable straight razor and shaved for a week. Now I am ready to move to DE.

Why aren't the super speeds measured on the wiki?

Some of them are:

Double-Edged_Safety_Razors_Ranked_by_Aggressiveness

The chart was put together by 3-4 people as I understand it, and they can't provide data for razors they don't own. :001_tt2:

Wow, I am impressed!! The Fromm is likely harder to use than any DE razor. I have shaved with one, and gave myself a pretty good cut (although not as memorable of a cut as I got when I used a Shavette with a 1/2 DE blade!!).

For those not in the know, the Fromm is a hair shaper available at Sally Beauty. It uses a long non-flexible blade. As shipped from the factory, it has a combed guard over the blade, as the intended purpose of the razor is for shaping hair. The guard is removable, and the result is a standard looking Shavette.

IME, the Gillette Tech would be the closest razor to a Bic Sensitive in lack of aggressiveness. The Bic Sensitive is the mildest razor I have used, though I do like using them in a pinch.

Make no mistake, the feather portable while being a tech clone is fairly aggressive. I rate it a tad more aggressive than the Merkur HD. I received mine from Pauldog this weekend and was on my second shave today. I like well balanced aggressive razors like the Merkur HDs and I am already in love with the portable. Fellow B&Ber and vendor Pauldog shipped it to India at a reasonable cost . A highly recommed razor for anyone looking to keep a good solid razor for a lifetime in their shave den.

The feather popular on the other hand is a very mild razor. I can do a super fast shave with a brand new feather blade in it and not get nicks. BBS takes at least 3-passes. However, the popular is mostly plastic made.

The Goodfella open comb is the mildest of all razors I have used so far. It requires hard work if you want to get nicked with this one.

Interesting. i am also new to DE shaving and cannot get as close a shave without a lot of blade buffing using EJ89 (which by the way is a beautiful looking razor) as I can with my Mach3 or Bic. Like you, I also went for a shavette (Parker and dovo ) both of which do a fantastic job. that said, being new to straight razor shaving It takes me a good half hour to shave!
