What's new

which brush and or shaving kit should i get?

Ok so I had a brush but being a noob I destroyed it by holding and storing it improperly so now that I learned how Im looking for a new one to practice on before eI get something expensive again. Im thinking of one of the following

http://www.amazon.com/Tweezerman-28...&qid=1340312329&sr=8-1&keywords=shaving+brush

http://www.amazon.com/Escali-100%-B...&qid=1340316760&sr=1-2&keywords=shaving+brush

http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Omega-11047-Banded-Boar-Shaving-Brush_p_797.html

http://www.amazon.com/Van-Hagen-Men...&qid=1340312329&sr=8-3&keywords=shaving+brush

But Im unsure of which to get any suggestion, also the last one im thinking of cause its a set and I need a stand but I hate that cheap plastic looking one stand so can anyone recommend me a decent stand for under $20. I want something sturdy, long lasting and hopefully not clear plastic or bright plastic. I found this one that looks alright for $20 do you guys think it looks good.

My 1st brush was a tweezerman..2nd link under it doesnt work...you might wanna look at our B/S/T ads for anything that catches your eye

The stand looks fine to me, but you're the one that's going to have to look at it every morning. :001_smile

Many of us started out with Tweezerman brushes and many of us purchased them from Amazon. They are "Okay" brushes in that they will make a lather, however they have clipped badger hair and tend to be a bit rough on the face, although they will break in over time. Be sure to use a small cup or jar to keep the wood handle out of the water as you soak the knot.

From what I understand the Escali is the same brush as the Tweezerman, with a different label.

I haven't used that particular Omega brush, but have used (and continue to use) the Omega Pro 49 or the Omega 10066. http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Boar_c_78.html

Knowing what I know now, if I was starting out and had $20 to spend on a brush, I would buy a Semogue boar. You haven't mentioned whether you prefer to bowl lather or face lather, whether you prefer creams, soaps or sticks. For a good general brush I would go with a Semogue 1800, http://vintagescent.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=5&sort=20a&page=3.

Boar brushes require a break-in period of a few weeks. Although you can use them right out of the box, they greatly improve over the first few weeks of regular use.

Best of Luck and let us know what you arrive at.

Hey, I have an escali brush that I'm PIFing (passing it forward). Let me see if the guy I'm about to send it to actually wants it or if I can send it to you instead.

I like to lather in face when im in a rush bowl when i have time, and the brass holder is built right but i hate the color and it wont match other decorations i bathroom. Im trying to find a silver colored stand to use or nice looking plastic so id love some recommendations.
