What's new

where do you pick up old double edge razors?

do you go to Thrift stores like the Salvation Army?

I live in a town with an unusual number of antique stores, but I've found my best deals on eBay. Other people report going into antique stores and picking up something for $5 that cost me $30, so YMMV.

Also flea markets, but I haven't been lucky there so far.

Online, there are other auction sites, or there's Etsy.com. And it's almost obligatory to mention the Buy/Sell/Trade forum here on B&B. Always lots of members looking to sell or trade their extra razors.

Yeah, your best deals outside of a flea market or antique store - generally a place where people are just looking to dispose of crap and don't know what they have - your best bet for the best price is likely here...at the B/S/T.

I've never had luck at thrift stores. IMO the best place is right here on B&B. Check out our B/S/T forum. A good bunch of guys who are NOT here to rip you off.

LOL..agreed, but I think by "rip you off" you mean "will enable you to the point of going broke"...anyone in the rip-off business is dealt with swiftly and never seen again (well, some re-register, but they always get caught, lol).

I found the coolest keychain at etsy.com!

I've looked in (most of) the thrift stores locally (in UK)...and the antique stores...so far with no luck

Got a very nice Flare Tip via the BST and have picked up a few bargains on ebay :001_smile

Beyond the occasional SE, I've never had luck at thrift stores/Goodwill/Salvation Army. In my area, antique malls is where it's at...lots of people scoping stuff out but not near as many as hit the resale shops (and the resale shops in Ohio tend to be nicer than the awful ones in other states I've lived in). Also, bigger antique places have lots of turnover, so stuff is always coming in. Since no one can be there all the time, the more often you go the more finds you'll make.

It's also a good practice to ask around, especially older fellas, if they have old razors they haven't been using and would like to let go. I've collected several nice Superspeeds that way. It's surprising what some people have...

I believe we have a typo...I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he was attempting to say "aren't" instead of "are"

You are quite correct Sir! I have edited my OP:blushing:. I apologise if I have offended anyone. It was a genuine typo. I've purchased over 15 DE razors and numerous blades, soaps, creams and brushes without any drama.

LOL, it was just funny is all...figured that was what you meant in the first place. It was almost a Sleudian frip.

I occasionally have good luck at antique stores. You're usually better off going to smaller shops in out-of-the-way towns. The big antique malls tend to have more savvy buyers and sellers. The best deal I've come across was a beautiful E2 Fatboy for $7. I've found a number of others in the $10-$15 range.

Ask ya Dad, Grandpa, Father-in-Law, Grandpa-in-law or any other relatives or friends of the right era. :001_tt2:

They may have made the move to cartridge or electric and may still have their old shaving stuff stored somewhere...........

I've bought pretty much all of my razors either from here or eBay. I'm heading out to a local Sunday flea market tomorrow morning to see if there's anything there.

I like looking in old antique stores. Its a therapeutic form of scavenger hunting. Plus you can find things that would normally go under the radar. Most antique stores don't keep up with shaving paraphernalia, so you can often get a good deal when you find something. The flip-side to this is that sometimes you'll find a razor that is WAY over priced. It can work both ways, but I think the antique stores offer better bargains then ebay.

I've not had much luck at thrift stores, with the notable exception of the Star I have listed in the B/S/T that came from a Goodwill store. Antique stores are your best bet, but you really have to look for them because they're usually mixed in with other items. I have about a dozen I frequent and the owners of every one have told me they hardly ever have customers looking for razors.
