when to stop the experiment - blades

Hi All,

Have been wet shaving for 7 weeks. Use a 23c. I have been experimenting with my blades and cream to find the right match.

I think I have found a great match for me, the Gillette 7'OCLOCK permasharps green. I am getting great shaves with two passes. WTG and XTG.

I've tried the Dorco 301s. Nice and gentle, but i need some more bulldog in the blade. Feathers were too much much bulldogs.

Should I keep experimenting? could there be a better blade for me?

My suggestion is, work through the entire sampler pack, and as you do...Switch up the creams periodically, that way you can determine what is the best combo for you. For me, creams aren't as hard to pick as blades. That might be different for you though. Once you find a really great blade, it's up to you whether you want to keep searching for a better blade or not. If you plan to keep experimenting with blades, I suggest you throw away, sell, or PIF (pay it forward) the blades that don't work as well for you. There's no sense in using blades that aren't good for your skin/beard, and you don't want to risk hacking yourself up. Good luck! :thumbup1:

The idea of the sampler pack is to find a combo that works well FOR YOU.
If you've found a consistently good shave, then I'd say go for it, and buy your stock.
No harm in trying something new from time to time to see if it gets better, but you could literally spend years trying every different blade/soap/cream/razor combo possible.

I think that the 23C is a good place to start from. You only used a few types of blades so there might be a lot of (positive and negative) experiences waiting for you.

For now I would stick for a while to the blade you like (the 7 o'clock green) to get your technique down. You can mix it now and then with a new brand but there is no need to hurry. What I would like to advice you is to go on trying new blades after a while since there are a lot of different blades/shaves out there and chances are you will find yourself an even better shave!

I'll take your advice! Thanks.

On the other hand, I think you should keep those blades that don't work well for you now. You may get another razor and find they work great in that one. I found that Astra SPs don't work very good in my 38M, but as I started buying more razors, I found a couple that they work great in. On the flip side, the blades that work great in your 23C may not work well in any new razor you buy.
