There were two devices during this time.
One was a bronze blade(owie.)
The other was using matching clam shells as tweezers(owie x 2500.)

This is supposed to be a Roman Razor. I concur with the afore mentioned OWIE
Actually three methods, as depilatories were quite widely used.
The Romans had no facial hair...it's a documented fact. Watch "The Greatest Story Ever Told" and you'll see this in Technicolor.
When a stray whisker appeared, they went to the "Fusionitorium" and dragged 16 jagged clamshells over their faces.

Geez, I sure am glad I started this thread! We are all so learned and cultured! 
I nearly spit out my drink!

Stan: And it's safe to walk in the streets at night now.
Francis: Yes, they certainly know how to keep order... (general nodding)... let's face it, they're the only ones who could in a place like this.

Reg: All right... all right... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us?
