What's new

When does it stop?

I started this little adventure simply wanting to get a better shave and save a few bucks on carts. It started out simply enough, I got a badger brush and the Merkur HD. Now I also have a fat boy, a slim, a futur and red tip.
This is crazy, now I'm looking at straights and hones!!! :confused1

For some of you long timers, does this ever end??? Am I gonna progress to some sort of horder, I mean collector!!!:scared:

Think of it as growing up.

Tinker toys turn into cars. Pet lizards turn into razors. Natural progression.

Oh yeah. Variety is the spice of life, and that is part of the fun of this hobby. You just have to figure out whether you want to indulge in all of those ADs at the same time, or focus on one at a time.

This is worrying me too. My wish list has all of TOBS, 3 semoges, a Shavemac 23mm, a travel brush, some more MWF, T&H, GFT, ETC ETC ETC ETC ETC MORE MORE MORE MONEY LOTS OF TIME ON BADGER AND BLADE, lots of mama bears, maybe some HBS, TSD, TQG, Gentlemens best, oh forget it. This list will nerver end

Seems like just when i think i have it under control, something pops up on B/S/T were i say "I want that"

I gave it all up and been going to the mens hair specialist every morning and been getting a pro shave and dust for 15 bucks every morning. Its well worth it.

It only goes on because you want it to.

You can get a great shave from a Merkur HD & a Tweezerman. No reason to spend any more than that.

However, some of us here on B&B consider the collection and mastery of shave gear a hobby, which is how we justify having 5 brushes, 6 razors, a full set of hones, etc

Well to answer this thread in seriousness, with the way my parents raised me, a lot of my expressions of creativity and right brain-dedness was crushed with the emotionless raising by my parents and straight forward expectations, exclusive to instruments, art, and other methods of my choosing to express myself.. when I found a girlfriend, someone who listened and gave interest to my ideas I began re-pursuing my expressions through computer building and shaving because someone finally gave me the time of day when I talked about and showed my interest.. Both of which provided for me a more rounded off being and wider spectrum of understanding to people in general, and much more myself.

SWMBO has done more for me than most, and more than she can understand, too bad under my circumstances things didn't end for the best with her :crying:

Bottom line, I don't care if this hobby runs me dry. It connects me to a deeper person within myself. At the end of the day, it's a damn fine shave, but in between it's about so much more.

Sorry for getting so deep with you fellas :biggrin1:

Well, as someone that was also raised by serious, inhibited, and largely self-minimizing parents, I would say that you're AD is justified and healthy.

You're engaging in what some psychologists refer to as a "self-love" (and I don't mean that in the way that some of you are thinking). There is nothing wrong/shameful about taking care of and spoiling yourself by treating your body as well as you can. You can always switch cars, houses, etc. You can't change a body so you might as well take care of it...you're going to have it for a while. At a certain level it's about being an ambitious adult. When's the last time you saw a guy with a terrible shave and poor grooming habits who was otherwise successful and/or admired in his community? Chances are the most successful people you know are the same ones that go to signficant lengths to take care of and otherwise express themselves because it's what meets their personal needs.

You need a Toggle, a Slant Bar, a Merkur Bakelite, an Eclipse Red Ring and an HD Rocket before you have the beginnings of a proper collection!

It gets worse when you start collecting Gillette date codes.

Whaaaaaaaat???? What do you mean, end? Are you guys saying this thing has an end??!! I better hurry before you all end up with all the good ones :001_tt2::lol:
