There are a lot of great tobaccos. Mac Baren Navy Flake is my recommendation. BUT, since you like Williams so much, you might be a good candidate for all of the codger burley brands.

I am not a huge fan of aromatics but I do like Maclellands Townsman Cavendish Blue - it's maple flavoured and great. I also like Samuel Gawiths Firedance Flake.

The two I smoke most often are Stonehaven and Penzance - both from Esoterica - the latter is an English type with Latakia and it is lovely in every way. You should check out tobaccoreviews.com

Cheers,

+1 on the anti-aromatic sentiment.

I use to be a pipe smoker but now I'm strictly cigars.

Still if you're a pipe smoker you owe it to yourself to try or develop a taste for "English/Scottish blends of tobacco. It is an acquired taste for some but the flavors are very satisfying. Plus they go great with strong teas.

Lately I've been smoking English Luxury I've been wanting to try some things that are a little stronger than the normal aromatics. After smoking cigars for a long time the pipe tobacco I had was too subtle for my pallet.

It would be unpatriotic of me not to mention my favourite :

Peterson's University Flake

I'm also very fond of 'Bald Headed Teacher' from 4noggins.com

I smoke a pipe rarely, but I have one I like the most called Mahogany. It's a cherry flavored and comes from John B. Hayes, which I think is just a local tobacco shop. I'm a huge fan of the aromatics... they also have one that is "rasberries and cream" flavored. Yummy!
Does anyone know what it takes to flavor tobacco? Is it something I could do myself?

Dave,
Also check out Devil's Holiday from Dan Tobacco/CAO if you like the Blue Note. Especially with fall coming up ....mmmmm

Thought I'd join my brothers hobby as I'm convincing him to do wet shaving. Bought a nice English estate pipe, some Scottish mix and Westminster mix to go with it. Anyone able to tell me what a tamper is for?

Er...at the risk of sounding smart..for tamping down the tobacco.Particularly useful after the first light of a full bowl, the tobacco often 'blooms' up a bit when lit, so use your tamper to gently press it down..like shaving no pressure !

During the bowl you can occasionally give a light tamp down on the tobacco/ashes to aid even burning.

Czech pipe tool recommended - very cheap but excellent
