What to do what to do?

So I own a Mossberg 20 Gauge combo for hunting. I do not own a shotgun for home defense. Recently I placed an order for a Mossberg 500 Persuader in 12 gauge but they have now placed me in the backorder vortex. I have decided now that I want a Ruger Vaquero. SO do I cancel my backorder so I can have the Vaquero funds or stick out the shotty backorder?

In my mind you are really talking about two different worlds here. You need to fully consider your needs, your nerves and the working environment Vaquero (or similar) requires a steady hand but also gives you more maneuverability whereas the Persuader (or similar) covers half the room but looses functionality when the hostile is on top of you.

Unless the room is unusually large and the distance to the assailant is long, a shotgun will still have to be aimed just like rifle or a handgun.

Huh? Not enough information in your question.

Is the Vaquero for recreation or home defense? If the latter, not a very good choice in my mind. A single action revolver requires you to thumb the hammer for each and every shot. Hopefully the meth-crazed home intruder will give you plenty of time for that step, each and every shot, as he's rushing you from only ten feet away.

You already have a Mossberg 20 gauge shotgun. You don't need a tactical Persuader shotgun, regardless of the popular current gun press. People have been defending their homes with "regular" shotguns for hundreds of years. Your 20 gauge will handle 3" shells of hardened and copper plated #2 buskshot (that's 18 balls at .27 caliber each per shell). With a full magazine, that's a lot of firepower--and in the scheme of things, racking the slide is just as easy as thumbing the hammer on the Vaquero. And more intuitive under stress.

That said, the Vaquero is a great and fine looking firearm. I would forget the Persuader and use the shotgun you already own for home defense. That way you could have a shotgun and the revolver. You could always leave the loaded revolver stashed (depending on children circumstances) in the house in a secondary location as a backup or if you got separated from the shotgun.

You'll hear arguments that you need the short barreled and pistol-gripped shotgun so you can "maneuver" and all that. Maybe, if you're a SWAT team cop or dwelling-clearing soldier. For most of the rest of us...not so much.

Yeah as I was typing last night my daughter started crying so I cut out quick and left out some pertinent info. The Ruger would be a straight fun cowboy action shooter. I already have plenty of home defense I am sure through the 20 gauge and my 357 Taurus Revolver. So I really don't need a 12 gauge I had just wanted one a little so one shotgun could be used strictly for hunting and the other straight home defense.
