What's new

What size washers?

I've just got a really nice selection of woods for my next re-scales (Cocobolo, Padauk, Bubinga and Black Palmira) and think they'll benefit from some "real" pins rather than microfasteners....which have been great to learn the basics with.

1/16" brass rod is no problem to source, have a great model shop locally. However, I'm going to need some brass washers and I'm not ready to make my own yet (baby steps for now ).

What are the "best" sizes of washers to get? I'm guessing I'll have to go with imperial rather than metric sizes. I'll initially just try a single washer and then peen the rod each side.

Thanks very much. Amazing how many shop assistants now give you a blank look if you're not using metric sizes here!

Over here almost every store carrying RC/model airplanes carries them.
But seldom brass, mostly stainless.
No problem with M1.6 stainless here either...already got the brass rod though and I'm not planning on two tone pins

Using silver and brass together actually looks very good. Try it... you'll like it. :001_smile

I did a quick test fit with some of the washers I've already got (SWMBO wanted a quick demo/explanation of peening). You're right as usual Bill the SS and Brass do work together (shame they're not quite the right size ).

I've got enough washers (small and wide) from my spare microfasteners (and from the model shop) to tide me over for now :thumbup1:

Brass & stainless makes an effect very similar of that made by gold&silver together & that is kind of a proven combination :biggrin1:
