What size Muhle/EJ synthetic brush and where to buy?

I realize that this is a YMMV question, but I would like to buy a "real" shaving brush in the future. I think that I will be going with a synthetic, either Muhle or Edwin Jagger (which I believe has the same v2 fibers). My problem is that my only comparison is an Ecotools kabuki (which is nice but can't get a lot of hard soap from Mike's onto it, hence the switch idea). I love the idea of a really soft feeling brush with enough backbone to get soap off of a puck. I figure that if I'm going to go through all of this, I should get a very high quality synthetic for $40-60 ish rather than something cheaper and wish that I'd gotten the better version afterwards. the only other option I was considering was the Kent Silvertex, but I can't find that domestically.

I considered the Omega with the latest version of fibers, but I don't know if those are the same new fibers as the Muhle/EJ and haven't seen any reviews to know how good they are. I also don't know where to buy the newer version.

I am assuming that version 2 fibers in a Muhle or the new EJ brushes are as good as synthetics get, based on other posts here that I've read (thank you all very much, btw!).

I'm thinking of the 21 or 23 mm, but I don't know how to make a decision past that (22-23 mm seems to be a popular range). I bowl lather, or face and bowl lather if it's a sample bar.

As to where to buy, I'm trying to find a B&B vendor that sells both medium and large sizes at a reasonable price that has a good reputation, or at least any vendor with those qualities. I haven't bought anything internationally, so the idea of doing that worries me a little as the usual fraud protections no longer apply (I may get one of those Visa check cards for purchases like this from vendors where I don't want to risk giving out a credit card number). I'm assuming that to get a good price and to get a 23 mm I will need to go outside the country. I haven't used PayPal enough to know how trustworthy it is.

Anyone?

Update - discovered the Omega Lucretia Borgia with "top of the line" artificial badger at Bullgoose for $33. No clue how it works, but if it uses the v2 fibers it's certainly big enough (24 mm) and certainly wins in the aesthetics department! Now I get to ponder even more . . . :001_rolle

If you're set on a synthetic, I would definitely go with the Muhle. I have a 21mm v2 and it's awesome. Super soft tips and dries faster than any other brush I've used. It's great for travelling for that very reason. As far as a vendor goes, Phil at Bullgoose and Jarrod at The Superior Shave both carry these brushes. Good luck in your search.

I have Mühle Classic silvertip fibres in 19, 21 and 23 mm sizes. I face lather, and the 21 mm is my favourite pick for that purpose. For face lathering, everything about its size is just right. It can bowl lather just fine, but the larger handle of the 23 mm makes that easier. The 23 mm is a little large for face lathering in my opinion, but its certainly usable for the purpose.

Mühle Classic range (Connaught)

I've placed 18 orders there in little over a year, and I haven't had a single issue.

+1. I believe that Connaught is the only vendor that expressly indicates which brushes have the Muhle V2 fibers and also has the lowest prices.

Are the knots equally dense in the EJ and the Muhle? Anybody know for sure that they're the same fiber, too? I see it here it said here often, but usually with a smidge of uncertainty at least.

Found out from BullGoose that only the "hi-performance" brushes have the newest artificial fibers (barberpole or black ash handles). I will prob wait until they come out with a snazzier handle and try one (I really like the look of the Lucretia Borgia :001_rolle)

I will probably order a 23 mm Muhle or EJ for now - thanks everyone!

I just ordered the 23mm from them on Friday

OK, I wil be waiting a bit longer - Muhle's website states that they are coming out with the silvertip fiber in an olive wood handle with the same shape as the traditional. Really nice imho . . .

I didn't care for any of the other handles, frankly, and the olive wood looks really nice imho . . .

So I ordered the Omega artificial badger (Lucretia Borgia model) from BullGoose to tide me over . . . and I am rationalizing this as "I can buy both brushes and then post a comparison so everyone on the board can learn at my expense!" :001_tongu

I can't believe that everyone is out of RazoRock Caprician Lemon . . . do people eat the stuff?!
