What's new

What should I expect from the Semogue Owners Club SE 2012?

Hi Gents: First of all. . . I just want to thank Phil Of BullGooseShaving for his superior service that I received and his super, sonic delivery. I purchased on sale for fifty follars a beautiful 2-band Semogue Owners Club SE 2012 brush. I purchased it on Saturday and it arrived in Florida in only two days.

As a fan of the Semogue brushes (I have the 620, SOC, 610, 1438, & TSN 2012 LE. . . I was lucky to purchase this beautiful brush. For those of you who own this brush, I would love to hear your thoughts on the performance of the SOC 2012 SE. Thanks in advance. Enclosed is a couple of pics of the brush. Phil. . . thanks again for your superior service.:thumbup1:

Enjoy your new brush. Mel!

Just to clarify for anyone else considering this brush... It is NOT 2 band. It's a mix of boar and badger.

Excellent brush nonetheless!!

Your handle is much nicer than mine!!! Expect some scritch, then awesomeness. I true soap crusher!!

How do you like the TSN LE? It's similar to that but With a lot more backbone and a fair amount more scritch so far. Mine isn't broken in yet, however.

Mel, congratulations on the beautiful brush! Wow, i can never get over how beautiful those LE handles are. i am almost tempted to get it just for the handle!
Enjoy the brush, my friend.

Having owned the SOC boar, 2-band badger and now the Special Edition I would say it has the backbone/scrub of the badger with a fraction of the scritch. It still has a small amount of scritch, but that seems to fade a little each time I use it and it does not exceed my tolerance threshold, which the 2-band SOC did. If it softens up as much as the SOC boar but retains its backbone it will be a true soap eating face lathering machine and right up my alley. For the record I still own the boar and SE but had to sell the 2-band as the tips never softened to acceptable levels even after several palm lathers and a desperate attempt at a treatment with hair conditioner.

Has the boar version not retained its backbone for you? Just curious...

I'm a little surprised at the negative marks the SOC 2-band has been getting in some threads recently...

Depending on your preferences you might like it very much (or not). I really love it, mine is well broken in, still has lots of backbone and like others said a bit of scritch, the SOC 2-band is another favorite of mine that I prefer over a lot of other brushes (including Shavmac, Simpson, etc....)

I have found that once it gets broken in, the lather just exposed out of the brush. It has great backbone and works well with both soaps and creams. I have noticed that it needs more water and product than my other brushes, but once I dialed it in the lather it produces is wonderful.

I did my first test lather with this brush yesterday and wow it had a serious funk cocktail. More than any other new boar or badger brush I've obtained. Must be that "best of both worlds" effect people are talking about. :001_tt2:

The boar does have good backbone, but not near the level of the LE. The LE and 2-band have more backbone than the boar but the boar has the softest tips of the three. The boar is my current favorite and had the tips on the 2-band been less prickly then it would still be in my rotation as well. The LE has a touch of that same sensation that I found in the 2-band, but to a much more acceptable level. It's definitely not my go-to brush though.

It is my favorite brush. I have two!

Break in is much like other Semogues, brush is much improved after 5 or 6 lather/dry cycles, continuing to improve through about 15-20 cycles.

Funk in mine went away after about 2 uses.
