What's new

What razor next?

I have a Merkur HD, 61' Fat Boy, 55 Red Tip (on the way), 75 V2 Super Adjustable (bday razor on the way) . Are there any other razors I should add to the den? What are the other really classic, sought after razors that I should look for?

How about an open comb Old type or a new? I'm really wanting to try a new standard. The open comb offers something new to the whole experience.

:o15: You just re-ignited my until-quite-recently extinguished RAD flame!

Didn't mean to turn on the bad RAD...

A more serious reply to the OP - You have a modern three piece, a SS variant, a couple of adjustables. You asked about "classic, sought after razors".

I'd say go for some classic, plain Jane razors. The Tech is about as classic as they come. The Schick Injector gives a great shave, and might be considered the Apple to Gillette's PC. Somebody mentioned GEM razors, another great shaver that doesn't have the collecting allure that the Gillette razors do.

Out of my modest collection, if I had to hand you four razors that I thought you should have, I'd pick:

  1. A 40's SuperSpeed
  2. A WWII issue Tech
  3. A Schick Injector
  4. An Old Type

The 40's SS is just a fantastic razor. I don't know why, but it works for me.

The Tech is the gray suit of the wetshaving wardrobe. I picked the WWII issue because it just reeks of history.

The Injector is too good a shaver to pass up, even if I don't love the form factor and feel.

The Old Type because it's what started the mass produced safety razor tidal wave, and when I shave with one I can hear King Camp Gillette chewing me out for using something other than a Gillette blade in his razor. Read the book Russell B Adams wrote about the history of Gillette, and King Gillette might start haunting you, too.

Yes. 40's aristocrat would make a nice addition.
