A hot flannel held against the face, even between passes with or without pre shave moisturiser gives me the closest of shaves. So much so that I can now use milder razors to achieve consistent BBS without the risk of nicks, cuts and weepers. My more aggressive razors including the R41 seemed to skip at times even when loaded with a Feather blade without the hot flannel pre shave.
