So my first brush restoration went horribly wrong so I decided to not give up and try again. This time on a Rubberset 510T that had little to no hair left. I got the knot out and most of the glue. Do I just glue my new knot in or do I need to I need to get all the black stuff out? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really don't know what I'm doing.

Depending on the knot your installing you could remove the metal band insert. If natural I'd leave it in ... it synthetic you could remove it. As @TobyC said your depth is also dependent on knot to be installed. I'd probably clean it out, but I'm crazy like that. :letterk1:

While it is empty it's a good time to sand and polish it. Just a helpful tip ... I protect the top edge with masking tape during old knot removal. I helps prevent unwanted nicks and scrapes. I only say this because I've made plenty of mistakes. Heres an example of masking.

Don't worry about mistakes; there are few that can't be repaired, savaged or hidden.
