Hey guys, basically looking for generalizations here, not necessarily your ideal brush and soap for example. I generally end up using a boar brush with a hard soap and an SE razor for example. How about you?

Thicker preshave oil, two-band finest badger brush, high quality croap and a DE razor with a Russian blade (my current favorites). But that's just one example. "Essential" is good oil, good brush, good lather, good razor, good blade. I can mix it up as long as those criteria are met.
