The main criteria for my brush collection right now is variety. I want a brush for every occasion right now because I have no set preferences on being strictly a soap user, cream user, face latherer, bowl latherer, etc. Right now I'm trying everything out to decide what I like. Maybe I'll always like the variety.... who knows..... but right now experiencing the different characteristics that all the different kinds of brushes offer is my main criteria for my collection.

Mine are the same as the OP:

1) I like the way it looks
2) It feels good in my hand
3) I must be going to use it
4) Must perform to my liking

At present this seems to also imply vintage, butterscotch and Simpson ...

Marco

B&B's Man in Italy
1. Loft height around 46/48 mm and always under 50 mm.
2. Dense knot of 22/24 mm packed with Best or Super (Silvertip) 3 band hair.
3. Short and "fat" handle design for improved manoeuvrability.

I face lather shave soaps almost exclusively and the above specs are what I look for in my badgers.

I find my sweet spot for knots is about 24/50 and prefer soft, pillowy brushes and seem to prefer 3 band silvertip, as opposed to 2 band.

Bulb or Fan, depending on what I want it for. Bulb is kind of "swiss army" for me, I use them for both. Fans are used for face lathering.

Shorter handles for face lathering, and like Marco, I like the handles a little more robust and thick.

Longer handles for bowl lathering in my scuttle.

Any brush that is 2-Band or very high quality for a reasonable price.

My most recent brush is the HMW Monarch from WSP. It makes a fine addition in my den.

I do not add a brush unless I feel that I have an area that it is not covered by existing brushes that I already own.

I do have some overlap with brushes of the same size, density, and performance but this cannot be helped.

Gees... I gotta take me a new pic. Have several new brushes that are not in that one.... Always something...
