What is this switch for?

First Picture is the switch in the up position, second picture is the switch in the down position. I see it moves the guard slightly, but not sure why. Is it to be able to clean the razor better? This is a Schick Adjustable and has MI7 or is it M17?

Here are a few more pictures.

It is supposed to be a safety feature to keep the head locked for travel or storage.

+1

I have one on my adjustable and it works really well. I can't cut myself when I have that lever engaged as the guard is too close to the blade. Great for travel.

They don't make them anymore. Sometimes you can find old stock on eBay. It doesn't matter though. This razor will accept regular injector blades too. It was designed to accept both (as noted in the picture). The twin blade idea fizzled out pretty quickly I believe (thank God-what if they had gone Gillette's route of adding more blades). Just get some of the Schick injector blades off of Amazon. That's what I use. They come highly recommended around here.

I appreciate all the help. I do have some injector blades from Amazon, as well as the Personna 74. I have yet to use this razor. It is in great shape, but would rather find an old dingy one for shaving so as to save this one from wear.
