What's new

What is this razor?

This old razor was found in a barn that was being cleaned out for storage. My guess is that it has been there at least fifty years. There are hairline cracks in the handle on each end. The open comb head cleaned up very well and the teeth are straight and true. A newer tech handle screws perfectly on to the head.

The blade is obviously carbon steel. It says"Complimentary" and "When a feller needs a shave." Has anyone ever seen a blade like this?

Thanks for the help.

This razor was made towards the end of the Old Type period. It is common to see gold ball ends on silver razors where I think Gillette might have been using up old parts.

The blade could have come from any of a 100 blade manufacturers of the later periods and is not original to the razor. The phrase is familiar but I don't remember off hand where it came from. I'll research it as I came across it recently.
