What is this razor

I have never seen this one before. While the open comb guard appears to be a New, I have never seen one like this with blade positioning posts. It is made in the USA and it's a Gillette. Is it just a New variant?

The handle looks like that of a ball-end Old Type. I'm not so sure about the head. Possibly Old Type too.

Ball end handle was standard on early New razors as well as with the Old Type. The combs certainly look like the long tooth New head, but the holes are definitely out of place. It's not a New Improved head. I wonder if somone modified a New head to take the old blades with an Old Type cap? That would be my first guess. Love to see the other side of that head.

I think that is exactly what happened. Not sure why they didn't bother to sand the burs off from the drilling process. It looks very amateurishly done to me; done in someone's garage who has a minimal amount of tools, and metal working skill.

That´s make sense. I´ve never seen this head before. Maybe it´s selfemade. Is that a Khaki case?

Yes, Achim. It's in a Khaki case complete with mirror. Not mine though.

If it's homemade I think it's a pretty good job. A close inspection may prove otherwise.

I think that's the consensus. I'm tempted to bid on this if the price is low enough. Just curious.
