What is the deal with shipping aftershave in the CONUS.

Every time I go to Mail Boxes Etc and mail a package, he asks me if there are any liquids or dangerous materials in it.

I have been answering "no", even though there have been plastic bottles of aftershave in the package.

Should I tell him and why is he asking ?

thanks

Shipping aftershaves without letting USPS know is illegal. I am not endorsing breaking the law, but the chance of getting caught are about as slim as the police finding out you allowed your son to have a sip of your wine at the dinner table, mostly because the USPS would have to prove you sent the aftershave knowing you were breaking the law.

The USPS claims they charge more for shipping alcohol because they put your package in a separate pile to avoid other mail from being damaged, should your alcohol spill. Granted, this could just be solved if USPS employees would not throw the packages like footballs.

I believe the USPS would be more concerned if a business did this. This is why when you order aftershave online, shipping is always more.

Thanks for the explanation. I never understood why they ask this and out post office person said it was "policy" without giving a reason.

If you tell them that you are shipping liquids they'll verify that you've packaged it approtiately, and flamables, like alcohol, they ship via ground service. I think they do the ground service so liquids don't burst with the pressue changes during flight.

What if the aftershave is a balm, or an aftershave milk, and doesn't contain any alcohol? Is that still the same, or is it different?
