Sorry, these types of "what's it worth" are not allowed.

Not sure I would drop a Benjie on a Fatboy. Too many other options at that price.

One billion dollars.

Seems like a lot is being read into the OP's intent.....I guarantee if the question would have been phrased "What is a fair price to pay for a NOS Fatboy" the responses would have been far less snarky. I didn't see the OP say "how hard can I screw the next guy" but that sure seems to be what's assumed here.

he bought it for $10, posted about it HERE and is now asking "what's it worth" which is NOT allowed per the Terms Of Use.

my guess is he want to sell it to someone or on eBay, in which case, check past sales and put it up for auction.

Bottom Line: these thread are not allowed...Period.

7. B&B is not an appraisal site. As such, asking values here isn't acceptable behavior. All B&B members, asking and answering, new or old, should be aware that B&B is a community of users, and not an appraisal or identification service for lazy individuals to optimize their sales without having to invest in the B&B community beyond an odd post here and there asking for info.

Edit: Brucered I apologize for the snappy response. The mods here are always on point and I am sure they will set the OP straight.

How do we know these were his intent, To screw others? I would think the OP knows better since he has been a Member here since 1-20-10 and up to this posting has 41 posts.

Maybe he want to see if he picked up a Razor worth $100.00 on the Market Today for 10 bucks ? Maybe he wants to know how good of a score he got?

I dont see him as looking to screw someone else, Or maybe i missed something?

Either way, these kind of ?'s arent allowed and bring Heat to the OP.

The real reason it is silly to ask what a thing is worth is that there is no answer. We all know that value theory in economics is flawed. No two people will attribute the same value to a thing.

Please forgive me, but to pesume that someone is trying to learn how to price an object by asking--as the B&B policy does--is as silly as asking the question in the first place. Also, it assumes negative intent on the inqusitors part.

Would there be a problem if the question were reformulated to read, "What would *you* pay for <thing of value>"? This isn't asking for a market price (an appraisal), it's asking what is the value in money that a single person would place on the thing.

Yes there would be, as that could be easily construed as asking for offers to buy.

The real reason it is silly to ask what a thing is worth is because it is against the TOU by which everybody accessing this site has agreed to comply with. We don't assume any negative intent, since it is already against the TOU to make such requests. No request, no negativity.

On one hand the question could be perceived as "How much of a score was this find?" And on the other "im looking to sell this so how much should i ask for?" Ebay is easily checked, the prices are rising. You will get an easy return on the $10 invested. If you put on the bay and get Ax$ then fair play.

It really isn't worth much, but us vintage razor users/collectors tend to get impatient and drive the prices up on these mass-produced razors. There are some truly rare razors that have collector's value outside of the traditional shaving community, but if you took your cased Fatboy to Antique's Roadshow they would probably say you paid about fair market value. A patient hobbyist (which itself is pretty rare) could easily load up on vintage Gillettes for under $10, it's all in the timing.

I agree they are not allowed, my problem with this thread is the highly presumptive manner in which the OP was told that they aren't allowed. Also note the "identification" note above. Those type of threads are posted daily in the safety razor forum and I have NEVER seen the riot act read on any of those threads. If we're gonna enforce the rules, then let's enforce them all.

Sorry, I wasn't aware the Rules (Terms of Service) only applied to certain members and situations.

Read up a few posts (post #15), they are NOT allowed.

If others were to point them out on the public form, we'd see a reduction in them. I see no need to REPORT them, as it's nothing we need a MOD ruling on, as it's clearly against the rules regardless of how you word it.

MOD's have better things to deal with then to police "what's it worth threads", I think we can police those ourselves as members.

We all are aware of this policy now so lets move on and start having real fun..... I think that the Fatboy is a great value now as it was back then. Many razors have a great reputation but I think that the Fatboy is Gillette's greatest achievement in adjustable razor design, it has endured the test of time like no other razor design, followed by the Single Ring.
