What do these shoe repair terms mean?

When Johnston & Murphy gives shoes the deluxe treatment, they do those things in addition to a resoling and refinishing. What are those repairs?

That's easy......Lined is a thin leather lining in the shoe, usually sheepskin in better shoes. Can also be a fabric.
Unlined is just the plain , usually rough leather...Does that help?

Some of these terms are hard to convey without photos but I'll do my best.

A counterpocket is the piece of leather at the inside heel portion of the insole that extends up the rear and sides of the the heel. It cups your heel.

Boxer Tops are the leather pieces that are above your toes in the inside front of the shoe.

A plug is the piece of leather that is sewn to the main part of the shoe. Sometimes called a collar and it goes around the top of the heel and extends around to the lace area.

Hope that provides a visual. I was a haberdasher at a high-end store early on in life and toured both J&M and Alden shoes back in the 80's. Still have a pair of custom shell cordovan loafers from Alden.

Thanks for the info - that's quite a rebuild. I don't want to hijack this thread but a pic of those cordovan loafers would be nice!
