Notes:

Summary. Supreme Sunday Shave with the Athena today. Off to my parents to celebrate Mother’s Day.

For extended shave notes click here.

Perhaps a final run with the Rubie seeing that I have been drawing blood all shaves with this blade. I still think it performs above average. I will grant it one final shave to get to 7.

Enjoy your shave!
Enjoy time with your Mom.

  • Comments: Today’s Mother’s Day shave yielded a smooth face feel. Not much on the agenda with heavy storms on the horizon. Getting ready to take the LOTH to I-Hop for breakfast.
  • Changed blades yesterday afternoon. By 1:00 pm I was feeling lots of stubble. So, #55 was ‘banked’ and replaced by a corked #56.

Cleanup:
  • Rinsed & dried face
  • Witch Hazel Dickinsons f/b buffing
  • A/S Aqua Musk f/b buffing
  • Omega Alum stick
  • Deodorant: Mennen Speed Stick

Razor: Merkur 23c
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue, 1st use
Brush: Maggard SYN 22
Bowl: Stirling Synthetic Travel Bowl Bowl
Soap: Maggard Tobacco And Leather Croap
Aftershave: Maggard Tobacco And Leather Aftershave
Fragrance: Stirling Soap Company HaverFord EdC

Good shave. Lighting sucks in some of these hotels. Could really use a mirror, or a mirror with a light but then I feel like I’m bringing way too much stuff and it isn’t very travel friendly. No nicks and a smooth go with a fresh blade.

This was the third day I used the more aggressive Henson and Wizamet blade. This was another close and smooth. Today’s brush is a synthetic made by @Graydog . The brush made a nice lather with the Haslinger soap. This was the 14th day I used the soap. The shave was perfect. Have a wonderful day, folks.

My Sunday Vintage Gillette Shave went wonderfully as always: a great razor, great blade, great soap, a visit from Ben the cat and a great shave. 🐱

Razor: Mekur Progress on "3" setting, brand new from packaging.
Blade: Mekur (1)
Preshave: PAA Tube 1.0 mentholated
Creme: Old Spice (india) tube original shaving creme, applied without brush.
Shave: three passes, two applications of lather (no brush).
Aftershave: PAA Porthos Star Jelly
Result: First shave with Merkur Progress. Dialed in on 3 and audio feedback was great. No snag, no drag. One little patch of irritation that was probably from a previous shave, but in fairness, must mention. Burned with alum, but no bleeding. Smooth shave, would pass a military inspection for gas mask seal, but there's whiskers visible in the mirror, under the skin. Sort of like a Mach3 shave. Glad to have the Progress in my shave den. Been a long time coming. No wonder these razors have been in constant production since the 1950s, it works. Going to try a Voschkod blade next. This was a test run and I was too lazy to dig around for another blade. The Mekur blade is functional, but nothing I'd ever willingly load into a razor again. Enjoying the PAA Parthos aftershave scent as I type this.

Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Thayers Unscented Witch Hazel, Nivea Unscented Post Shave Balm & Seaforth's Black Watch AS
Rating: 10/10 A comfortable efficient 3 pass BBS shave with no touch ups, weepers, cuts or irritation. It was nice to get back to one of my favorite soaps. An excellent shave!

WR1 DARWIN SHAVE

5 Days Whiskers

MUSIC: Heavy Horses by Jethro Tull, 1978. A fantastic album from the scottish band.

PRE-SHAVE:

- Hot Shower

- Musgo Real Pre-Shave Oil (PT)

BOWL: SV Shaving Grail (IT)

SOAP: Haslinger Aloe Vera Rasierseife (A) -

Excellent Lather I got out of it.

BRUSH: Hans Baier Walnut Three Band Silvertip, 29 mm (D) -

A marvelous luxurious brush.

SR: Wolfman WR1 Copper 0.94 OC / Darwin Handle (CND) -

This is the first time I shaved with this razor, which I received from Canada last week.
I choosed the most agressive overture ( Blade Gap) for a WR1, the 0.94.

I was taken aback with its efficiency. It really impressed me.

And while having an unequivocal blade feeling it is smoother than the Timeless Bronze 0.78 OC and much more efficient.

This Wolfman WR1 0.94 OC loaded with a KCG is very close to perfection. One of the best combinations I've ever used.

BLADE: KCG (1) -

One of my top ten tier blades. A great blade both in efficiency and durability.

- Mareb Allume di Rocca (IT) -

A testimony of how close I went.

- Musgo Real Classic Scent After-Shave (PT)

- Nivea Men Cream (D)

- Musgo Real Black Edition Eau de Toillette (PT)

THE SHAVE:

Absolute 10/10 high efficiency shave.
I got a tiny weeper on chin, insignificant.

1st Pass: All WTG.
An amazing pass. It mowed down 5 days of whiskers on the first single pass.

2nd Pass:
All ATG except on Mustache and Chin Areas where I went XTG from West to East.

Touch-Ups: XTG on neck.

Sunday Morning Shave Salutations

Rating: 9.85/10 Close to Perfect

And a Happy Mothers Day to all Mothers and Wives. My Mother has sadly passed but I celebrate her
every day by residing in the house I grew up in.

So I don't know if this beautiful Dunhill qualifies as a Lather Catcher but it
certainly shares some DNA with it's Wedge Blade cousins.
Loaded a fresh GEM this morning and was rewarded with a beautiful BBS Shave.

Sunday's Mother's Day shave -

Razor: Yates 'Merica
Blade: Voskhod (2)
Pre-shave: Vintage Colgate barber shave soap
Lather: Shannon's Soaps "Barbershop"
Aftershave: Afta

The last couple of days I used some vintage Colgate barber shave soap as a pre-shave: Wet face and soap, rub soap on skin until a bit of soap is visible, massage/rinse the soap to leave skin wet and slick, then lather on top of it. Maybe it's overkill but it feels nice. The result was an excellent, smooth, and irritation-free shave.
