Weird. I just had my first shave with a Kai and liked it. Kai blades come with no markings on the wrapper or on the blade.
Weird indeed. I heard so much about how good this blade was and are going to order a few tucks. I received 2 blades sampler with a white wrapper and no markings whatsoever. Is it like this??

Soap: Cella
Razor: '79 U.K. Tech
Blade: 7 O'clock SS
Brush: Omega Boar
Aftershave: Pinaud VIBR
Balm: Nivea Sensitive

First shave in a few days. Was going to bust out the single edge, but I missed the Tech because I did OCtober. Got a nice shave going ATG on the 3rd pass, of which I'm slowly but surely getting better at. Only 1 weeper on the 2nd pass.

9/10

  1. I love this brush!
  2. I love this soap!
  3. I backed off of the pre-shave cream a little. I think I have been applying it too heavily the last couple of shaves...
  4. This razor was dragging a little yesterday. I gave it a mini paste stropping treatment, and it was back to excellent today.

36-hour beard

Gillette postwar fat-handed Tech in yellow gold; Feather blade (3)

Erasmic soap in the red-lidded tub

APShaveCo synthetic brush

Clubman SR aftershave, Assured lotion, Clubman powder

No shower or hot towel today; I did this like our grandfathers did (though they didn't have synthetic brushes -- and may not have bothered with lotion). I washed my face, put a little Erasmic into the beard, then loaded the brush and face-lathered. A simple 1-to-2 pass shave, WTG on everything, then ATG on the throat, no cleanup, aftershave, lotion, and powder, done. And I rinsed the powder off after a few minutes and spritzed on some Hollywood by Playboy cologne. I can tell my throat is not BBS, but I was't chasing that, and when I shave again on Tuesday morning my beard will be easier to plane off. Verdict: 9.2.

Sunday Shave
Pre-shave: Shower/hot washcloth/PAA The Cube
Razor: English Post War Tech
Blade: PermaSharp
Brush: 81052 23mm Banded Boar
Soap: PAA Sundown
Bowl/Mug: Fleamarket Find
Post Shave: Nivea balm/The Ordinary hyaluronic acid drops
AS: PAA Sundown

Today's shave felt pretty dang good, or so I thought.
After I got the hot washcloth done, I applied The Cube, and whipped up a nice lather, and got a nice coating on the face.. This Omega brush has broken nicely.. felt real nice on the face.
Did a 3 pass shave, and everything felt good.
Did my post shave and cleaned everything up.
My face felt smooth, as did most of my neck.
Did a few things around the house, then sat down to catch the Miami game. During the game, I rubbed my face, and felt some bad stubble on the left side of my face. So the initial shave wasn't a good as the initial impression led me to believe.
Had to go touch it up during the halftime programming.
That left it the way it should have been. I initially started up the touchup dry, and got some if it removed, but decided to just grab the canned goo and redo both sides.
I'm guessing that just post shave, my face is nicely hydrated, but it drys out and contracts, and the stubble emerges.
Annoying.

On the up side, I didn't have any irritation.

If I posted this right after my shave, or just before the game, I would have rated the shave a 9, but I didn't.

Initial shave get a 7.5, the touch up gets a 9, for an overall 8.25, which is a shame, because my face still feels nice this evening.

Kai blade (blade sampler so no name nor logo) was not good at all. Started pulling and tugging almost immediately wtg.

Curious to know what angle you use. Whenever a blade tugs I adjust to shallow angle by riding the cap. That's worked pretty well for me so far, but I haven't tried Kai blades yet.

Razor: Gem G-Bar
Blade: Gem PTFE (2)
Soap: Van Der Hagan Delux
Brush: Vintage EverReady 150
Aftershave: Clubman Lilac Vegetal
Rate: 10/10

After using my Atra Plus cart razor for a couple months, I am back to the old school DE/SE razors. Although the carts allow a faster shave, I get a lot of irritation. I used the Atra through out my 20's and I do not remember such irritation. I think my whiskers are a bit more stout these days at 50 years old.
