What's new

what did santa bring to your cafe this year?

Santa was good to me this year, I received a Bonmac variable temp gooseneck kettle and a Hario V60 scale.

The scale is great because I no longer need a separate scale and timer so it saves quite a bit of room. It is also more accurate than my old kitchen scale: 0.1g resolution opposed to 1g. Not to mention about half the size - nice and streamlined.

The kettle works great as you can set to any temp and it will slow the boiling process and stop right where you set it. No overshoot. It's pretty impressive, actually. It also does away with transferring the water from my old kettle to the Hario Buono. No more heat loss and guessing. It will take a bit of getting used to as it's a bit more heavy than the Buono, but I already like it.

I got a pound of Starbucks Christmas Blend (one of my favorites), and a Starbucks (aka Melitta) ceramic pour-over brewer that came with a matching 10oz mug.

My wife got me an Aeropress for Christmas. I enjoy good coffee, but don't claim to be a coffee connoiseur. I have been using a Bodum french press when I want to make good coffee. I tend to be a traditionalist in many things, but it seems the Aeropress makes coffee that tastes at least as good, free of stray grounds, and easier to use and clean. All-around winner, IMHO.
