What Can You Tell Me About These Garage Sale Str8s

Although I have owned a Dubl Duck, I have no real knowledge of straight razors...what is good and usable and what is not etc.. I went to a garage sale today and scored these nice str8s that seem to be in almost unused condition. I have not tried to clean them yet but they are free of rust spots and pitting or corrosion and the pivot pin is nice and tight on all three. The scales seem like new and the Yankee (if that is the brand) looks to have beautiful bone scales. Any info on these razors would be helpful and I am very glad to add them to my collection.

I'm not sure but the last one looks like it may have a frown. They all look like 5/8ths razors but what's the first razor named. As far as the Lion brand Yankee one, ( I took this off another site) In 1903-1953, this trademark was used by Reichard. It was renewed in 1933, and 1953 by American Safety Razor. (http://strazors.com/index.php?id=324) check here for the other ones until the Razor info God GrayBeard comes in.:001_cool:

Good golly! What are the scales on the third made from? Thems are sweet!

I love the scales on the first.

The second had damage to the tip and it was "fixed"

The third looks great, I believe those scales might be bone.

Thanks guys! Funny, to show my lack of knowledge of straights, I thought the middle one was supposed to look like that! From what I could gather searching the web it does appear the last one does have bone scales...I really like that one. What can I do with that middle one? can it be honed as it is and used or should I toss it?

It can be used as is, but most people would probably choose to shorten it for neatness. You could then make new scales to fit, or just use the ones it has.

If you don't feel confident doing the shortening yourself I'm sure there would be someone here prepared to do it for beer money.

Yeah. There's hope for this one yet. You'll just need someone to make this happen.

Yeah, make the griffon into a shorty (That particular razor seems to break A LOT... brittle steel maybe... I've seen a TON of carbomagnetic shorties).

The Lions are fun razors. The steel is so soft it's almost playdoh. Those are gorgeous bone scales. I'm no expert on polishing blades, but get some recommendations on the best way to lightly polish that one without taking out the etching (you won't get it clean, but a light polish that preserves the etch would be nice to do), then hone it up.

The other blade looks good to go with a honing.
