What brush to buy next

New to the forum, but have already learned some things I didn't know. I am looking at buying a new brush and need some advice.

My current brush is a Vulfix 2234. My biggest issue with it is it is too soft. The handle size/shape is OK on it (I have pretty big hands so anything that is really small should probably be avoided). I am good with the knot size as well, but would prefer not to go any larger. The most important issue is the firmness. I am a face-latherer who uses creams. Budget is under $100.

Thanks for your help!

Custom Shavemac. 21mm diameter knot, 45mm loft, and Finest hair grade. Choose whatever handle style and color you like. Email Bernd via his website, and you'll have it at your door in a couple weeks (tops). That's within your budget, and you'll get a unique brush.

If you don't have a boar hair brush, I would suggest you try a Semouge 1305. I just bought one for about $13.50 and have really enjoyed it. It really works well with soaps. After I bought this brush, I realized that boar brushes are really underrated. Everyone should own at least one good Silver Hair Badger and one good Boar Hair Brush.

I like the Kent BK4. Its a perfect size and its a silvertip. I got it from the shaving-shack.com in England for around $70-$75 including shipping. :thumbup1:

I'd recommend the Boreal 976 boar brush. It has a great back bone and feels downright luxurious on the face! It also runs a mere $20.00 at shoebox shave shop and has a gorgeous wood handle.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I am further looking into them. I probably will be back with some questions in the next day or two. Allthough I still intend to pick up a new badger hair brush, I might start with a boar hair as it is a pretty cheap way to try something completely different.

Just wanted to add in on the Boreal 976 with a few comments. I just received one today along with some other items. The handle on this brush is excellent! Great shape to the brush, and the handle looks like it would go to a much more expensive brush really.

Very good backbone to the brush, and the first time I used it for a test lather only brush I've seemed to feel a bit of a scrubbing action to it, which is weird. The tips are very soft.

This has been the first boar brush to impress me, but I think that might have a bit to do with I'm still getting used to using a boar brush, and better technique is finally coming into play, and this brush just happened to get the benefit of it.

Tiny bit annoyed that my brush got some glue in some of the bottom bristles, but not bad either. I can be very picky if I want to be.

Definitely look forward to working with this little beauty more! :thumbup1: Course I got a lot of other beauties that want attention as well, both here at home and one I don't have yet (Leave my mind be 2 Band Chubby 2!)...

I just ordered a Rooney style 2, small size brush in super silvertip. The design picture shows a knot of 22mm, but the written description states the knot is 20mm. This is not a big issue, but does anyone know which is right? Also if you have one, how does it work for you, and how is the brush overall? Thanks.

Where did you get it from? The link I gave above is pretty consistent in saying 22mm knot. Vintage Blades specializes on Rooney brushes so they probably have it right.

BTW I just received my style 1 size 1 and it is absolutely perfect! I am seriously considering getting another so I can rotate them every other day to be sure they get a chance to dry completely.

I've never heard of a Rooney Style two in small that isn't 22mm. That's the smallest Rooney Brush knot I've seen from looking at various sites. Might want to get some more info to make sure, but I believe it is an error myself.
