What are people talking about when they say NEW/Old type?

I'm only about 1 year into shaving with a DE and I'm not up on all the lingo yet. What are NEW/Old type razors?

Old Type was the first Gillette safety razor design (although at the time , they're weren't called "Old Type"..that designation came after the "New Improved" was released (not to be confused with the NEW that followed)).

The NEWs were a design that used a slightly different head that took a new style of blade. Modern DE blades work in both.

Thanks James. There is so much information on this page that it would've taken me forever to find those links.

It gets even muddier since some of the razors had different names, depending on the box/set they came in, even though the razor itself wasn't any different than the ones in other boxes... the New Standard razor looks like it was put into varying sets with other names on it.. Bostonian, Richwood, and a few others.
