What's new

What a waste of time

Last night, I did something that I promised myself I would never do again. I shaved with my Fusion:rolleyes:. After using my Bic Sensitive effectively utilizing my improved technique (normally I use straight, DEs occasionally, and Bic Sensitive when traveling), I thought that surely I could utilize the same technique to get a superlative shave from the 5 bladed monster... So, I got after it utilizing all of the techniques that I would normally use (good prep, great lather, 3 pass WTG, XTG, ATG, light pressure, etc.), and I got a positively sub-par shave. Apparently, if you aren't willing to apply pressure that razor just won't cut it...

No worries, though. This morning, I pulled out my Puma 4/8, GFT Violet, and Rooney 1/2 and redeemed myself. Now I sit here with a perfect BBS shave, and with a renewed confidence that I've definitely done myself a favor in transitioning away from the "improved" shaving systems.

Thanks again, B&B :thumbup1:

On a whim, I bought a pack of Bic Sensitives (based on the chatter here about them) and a Mach 3 knock-off at the $.99 store.

I was quite surprised at how good the Bics were. And surprisingly disappointed by the triple-bladed monster. I gave it two days and went back to the DE.

Well, cartridge blades are designed to shave people easily... not necessarily well. Can you imagine if their ads had subtitles to translate the Bullcrap into English?

"Press all you want! It's darn near impossible to cut yourself, even with crappy shaving cream and technique!! We guarantee* you a Close, comfortable shave! No skill required!!"

*this is not a guarantee*

Even the subtitles would need fine print!!

My Father swears by the Bic Sensitives Disposables and Edge shaving cream.

LOL at least your father wet shaves(in a mannor of speaking)! Unlike mine. Mind you by the time they require them my daughters will have very close shaved legs as I'm sure I will have the odd razor to pass on down.

Good thing all you got was a sub-par shave. last time I used my M3 ( and I mean the-LAST-time-I-will-use ), I was rewarded with not 1 but 2 lovely ingrown hairs.

(first post ever bear with me)

Thanks for doing that richmondesi for the benefit of the greater population.

After my very first DE shave with a Futur I thought man, I don't know if I can cope with the adrenalin, perspiration and fear every morning, I'll just use the fusion tomorrow. Next morning I couldn't pull out from the challenge and I have never been back to the fusion. I threw all that garbage out a few months ago and then just recently thought maybe it would have been interesting to give the old Fusion another go, for erm scientific comparison type purposes only. I won't bother now.

I've had pretty much the same experience when resorting to my Mach3 while traveling. While using better creams and actually using aftershave keeps the irritation away, I end up with stubble that compares with what I have about 18 hours after my average DE shave. I'll have to check out a Bic Sensitive next time its not practical for me to travel with my DE.

You have to press harder in order to get the proper blade angle with the Fusion. There are no such limitations on the Trac II, the Atra, or the Sensor, which is why they are fundamentally superior to everything that came after them.

I tried a light touch with my M3 a few weeks ago, and all that does is make it so the 3rd blade is the only one that touches the face, and it does so at a horrific angle.

You can use DE techniques with a Sensor and get a nice shave.

Agreed. I can get excellent results with my fixed blade Trac II although, on balance, I still prefer the sport of DE shaving. The M3 also provides good results, but you do need to change your technique to suit the pivoting head (i.e., a little more pressure).

I have only tried the Fusion once. The single blade on the back is ok for trimming sideburns. :001_tongu

Bic Sensitives, some tell that they tear up their face, just for me they work so fine.

I don't use them at home often just because I can use my DEs, but shaving wise they are between my best shaver HD and Tech, so not bad at all.

I agree with Strat. I used my Fusion while travelling recently and got pretty decent shaves by applying more pressure than I would with a DE. It worked pretty well, but I too enjoy the "sport" of DE shaving WAY more.

Hey, welcome to the B&B. Yes, I'm sure Paul MUST have been doing that for the sake of reminding us all that those multi-bladed WMD's are useless. He couldn't have possibly thought that the Fusion was really going to give him a good shave.

Right, Paul?

Honestly, I thought that if my Bic Sensitive can, surely my Fusion can... Like I said, it probably will given a lot of pressure. However, I'm unwilling to press in because I know what the consequences are (for me and my face)

That may have been the problem I had with the 3 blade razor. Was using DE techniques. Thanks.
