The Count of Merkur Cristo

B&B's Emperor of Emojis
A real good read and I would like to add that around these parts, a old-time steam towel & straight Razor shave is only $6 and a hair-cut (high-and-tight), is $11...so I get the 'full-monty' every week :thumbup1:

And it’s rare to see well-dressed, well-groomed men cutting the hair of equally well-dressed guys.

I don't know about you guys, but in the accompanying photo I see a very scruffy looking guy in a flannel shirt, cap, and work boots sporting the scraggliest looking beard imaginable administering the shave. :thumbdown

But be warned: to men used to the Trac II or Mach3, the straight razor shave will come as a surprise. You feel as if you are trapped in a chair while your beard is intently licked off by a mountain lion with an 80-grit-sandpaper tongue. The word “luxury” does not come to mind.

I wish there was an old school barber near me!

I had a straight-razor barber shave years ago, I didn't feel trapped by a mountain lion. It was different, but not in that way.

As for SlyGI, thank you for serving our country (whether you are a US GI or from one of the other countries in the coalition). I want you to know that there are some here (including myself) that appreciate the sacrifices you have made to protect us both here in the US and abroad.

I never have had a straight razor shve, but was thinking about getting one before I tried straight razor shaving myself. I currently DE shave with the 39C Merkur. If a straight razor barber shave fells bad for the Mach 3 guys, how will it feel to a DE shaver?

Don't do it is my personal advice.
9 out of 10 guys who do, come back in here and complain about how bad it was.
Shaving someone else with a straight seems to be a dying art, and you'll be much happier with the shave you give yourself.

I was one of those 9.

The biggest reward once you learn is how your face thanks you for feeling so good. It's a feeling of stimulation and well-being. I shaved for about 40 years without ever having that feeling before finding about traditional shaving this year.
