What's new

Well hello there, 33C

I think I've owned nearly every razor that Merkur currently makes at one time or another but the 33C (original) had somehow managed to escape me. I imagine part of the cause is my own ignorance in being subconsciously convinced by mainstream media that in order to be good, it must have some additional quality that sets it apart (call it supersized syndrome). Anyhow, I grabbed one up the other day and have been very pleased. My prior mainstays have been the HD & LH, but I think the original may take over for a while.

Anybody else enjoying the 33C?

along with more vintage razors than I care to admit, a 38m, and a 37c. I find myself using the 33c more than any of them (probably added together). It is almost an effortless shave. Just a touch more aggressive than a tech (IMO) I can't remember the last time I acquired a nick or irritation from the 33. We all know what will happen now!

I started out with a 23c LHC and now have a Gold HD. The HD can seem a little heavy at times. Although, being a 2-piece does have its appeal. However, I am strongly considering venturing into the Gold version of the 33c, as I tend to prefer somewhat lighter razors. So far the Merkur Classic headed razors and Derby blade combo is aces for me.

I have one and the shave is easy enough. Still it has been degraded a little and has become my travel razor. I like its simplicity.

I haven't tried one yet, but I am enjoying the way you are starting these new threads, as though you have never been away, without missing a beat. Keep it up.

I really like my 33C. Used it this past Saturday. Combined with a sharp blade (I use Gillette Super Thins) it's a great performer.

This AM, my 33c (my first razor) with a gilette 7O'Clock gave me one oft he smoothest shaves I've had (smooth feel during shave, just a quik 2 pass CCS). But, my 33c is my test razor as well...all new blades go through the 33c first.

my first razor is a 38c i use it every day and get good consistant shaves with it and my derby blades.

 Away physically but always here in spirit.

I'm several days into using this razor now, and it is surely a keeper. I've only used Derby's in it so far but have plans to run a few more brands through it. I feel silly that it took me so long to give this razor a try.

I quit sampling razors shortly after locking in on a 40's Superspeed. The GEM experience really clinched it for me to quit playing around. However, one of these days I will get a Merkur and possibly an Edwin Jagger.

Based on their similar dimensions, I'm guessing that if you like the superspeed, you'll also like the 33C. Honestly, it is this similarity that drew me to it. I've owned 4-5 different superspeeds. I love the weight and balance of the razor, but every single one that I've owned had something wrong with it, which in turn, never gave me a true read on its performance.
