What's new

Well guys, The ARKO finally got here!

I got my ARKO in the mail today. I opened the box and was surprised there was no insanely foul or otherwise off putting odor. I am beginning to think that this is an ongoing inside joke. :biggrin1:
But anyway I opened the box and carefully opened one of the sticks to preserve the wrapper and gave it a big ol sniff.
I handed it over to my neighbor and asked her what she thought of it. She said, "I know that smell, just can't put my finger on it" I said, "alright let me smell it again" This time I came up with Ivory. She agreed but felt something was missing, different. It really does not smell bad IMHO, it just seems like they didn't bother perfuming the heck out of it.
I tried it out just a half hour ago, It works great. I detect no presence of citrus. It seems to smell like a toned down version of Ivory and that's ok, I think that's what the problem with the Ivory was is that the smell needed toning down. The stuff is as slick as everybody says with no doubt. It does lather with very little work also. Right now I am thinking that it is just a preference issue among different human beings. We all have our likes and dislikes. I love the clean, soapy smell of the ARKO! I am not regretting buying 3 sticks on the first shot.

Glad you enjoyed it !! Arko does smell like the old Ivory detergent , but some detect a hint of what is best described as lemon pez candy..

Arko is moving up my list of shaving soap/creams to try! Would you compare it to MWF(which I think also has a classic ivory smell)?

I caught a whiff of it from a friend's stash, he won't share as he feels it is HOLY or something. Some have said that it has a powdery smell, some say it smells like "Old people" I don't agree with that statement. My nose does not agree that it smells like Ivory or powdery. I think it smells like some old school ladies facial cream. I actually prefer the soaps I have now to the smell of the MWF.

Mine smelled pretty disgusting when it first showed up in the mail. It has definitely toned down to something that I would equate to Ivory. I just don't think it is that great.

I am a one and done with Arko stick - their cream on the other-hand is really decent and underrated.

I was wanting to try the cream in the tube. I actually have seen quite a few tubes I wanted to try. Shipping however, is one of those things which make me think twice.

Arko and MWF smell pretty similar to me. I think I will order the cream next time I'm shopping. It's certainly inexpensive enough to deserve a try.

To me, Arko--which I think is a great product--smells a lot like laundry detergent powder, which is not at all bad.

It is all due to looking and paying attention around here. Lots of discussion is had about the ARKO. I wonder what I'm gonna get enticed into next!

Arko is one of the best products I have used. The only one that beats it is Castle Forbes creams. Now that is saying something considering I really do not like the smell at all.

To me the lemon pez holds some truth as well as the cheap laundry detergent smell. There is a sickly sweetness to it that is currently rubbing me the wrong way. I'm going to give it another go on Monday to see if airing it out for almost two months has helped.

When my Arko arrived I was not sure if I liked the scent either. I unwrapped the top half to "air it out" a bit. It grew on me though, and now is one of my favorites.

Great stuff! I air it out by tearing off the cover paper but honestly the scent does not bother me too much. Enjoy!

From all the posts I would think there is a quality control problem in Turkey. One at the Williams factory as well. While lots of people complain that Williams smells like a bug candle, my puck has a very faint soap smell, I have to get my nose close to it. My stick of Arko, on the other hand, would make my eyes water if I tried to get that close. I haven't used it yet, but wow, it will need some airing out before I even try it.

I'm for all things citrus, so Arko is one of my favourite soaps. Love the smell. Have enough of it too last quite a few years.

Remember to check out the "Cult of Arko" thread.
