WEISHI TTO-your thoughts are invited

I've recently been gifted a new chrome plated WEISHI tto, and although it looks the part and has a nice easy smooth opening action, a good weight and balance, the perishing thing removes stubble to a depth of about an inch and a half! Is it a new subcutaneous shaving system I've not read about yet? Or maybe a farming implement possibly?

Now whilst I cannot profess to being the world's most accomplished shaver, I can honestly say I've never removed so much epidermal layer in the past, not even with my dad's old Techmatic when I was about seven years old.

Am I simply a hopeless case, or have any of you other noble whisker whackers encountered a similar problem, and if so, have any of you discovered a way to 'tune' the cutting edge or whatever?

I look forward to your comments, hopefully before I bleed to death.
Many thanks, in anticipation,
:euro:

I have a weishi lying about in my den, but my experience with it was that it was a very mild shaver. I found it almost impossible to cut myself let alone remove the epidermis. Did you look if yours holds the blade in a correct way (not in a strange angle or uneven exposed)? Or can it be that you are using way to much pressure while shaving? This doesn't seem to be the case given your earlier experience with different razors but still worth thinking about. Next time you may also want to look at your shaving angle, maybe this is where you go wrong and you should use a more shallow angle.
Hope I could help out.

seems like an aggressive blade would be needed to get a good shave out of em..same with if you have an aggressive razor..mild blade

It's a mild razor. My Weishi did not last long, about 9 months and the plating started to chip off along with the TTO mechanism falling apart.

Hmmm. They have a reputation for being mild. Perhaps yours is defective? Send it back if you're sure the blade you're using isn't a very aggressive one.

I bought one and it was mild. The problem I had with it was that it was just a poorly constructed razor. When I can use a 60 year old razor and it's put together better than a modern one, then I'm not impressed. It's just too easy to copy existing work to do it wrong. My guess is that if it's causing you this level of irritation, there's an issue witht the blade gap. I could easily believe that a quality control issue made it out of the factory with these razors.

Its a good razor for a beginner...but my TTO mechanism disintegrated after 7 months...super mild. I would blame your technique for your experience. You'd me more likely to nick yourself shaving with a plastic knife than a Weishi...

My TTO mechanism died before I finished my first shave. Not a bad looking razor but poor quality.

I found the Weishi to be a total piece of junk all around: rattled when in the locked position, and so mild it was useless for the purpose of shaving. I know it has it's fans, but in my opinion, it's one of the worst razors on the market.

As we all know a vintage Gillette Superspeed totally blows it away!!

+1

I have to agree about the poor quality of the Weishi. It looks nice, but I don't think it's built well. I don't think the TTO mechanism will last a very long time in mine either--it doesn't turn smoothly. With mine, one side of the blade is crooked so I basically have a single edge razor. I agree with other posters, the OP should probably check his razor to see if the blade exposure is even.

If the blade gap looks OK, and you keep shaving with it, I would advise to work on technique. Thorough prep, find the right angle, no pressure, etc.

I'm still using mine--one edge is fine--I'm planning to try at least one of all my different blades in each of my razors. I can get a fairly good shave with it, with good prep and lather.

I was using a Weishi when I started out and then went to a old Gillette, used those for a while and then made the move to Parker and now a Merkur, the Weishi was ok but I wanted more weight. Get a used Parker or Merkur on the board here and you willl see a difference.

Have to agree with this, wish I would of known this info before I threw my money away.

Mine has lasted years with no change in function. However, straight out of the box one side's edge wouldn't clamp down completely. This was so slight, however, that it didn't effect the blade's performance in any way, and it continues to this day. No rusting, too.

With all due respect, this is a joke right? Given your handle, I suspect there's some other purpose to this thread.
It must of been damaged or modified. I honestly don't see how anyone could cut themselves with it.

Incidentally, I wrote the company to ask if they'd had considered producing an adjustable razor, the guy wrote back that he had three different fatboys on his desk as he typed. I can't wait for the hubbub should that ever happen.
