What's new

Vison 2000

Hi
I have been using for the past 4 months or so a Merkur 38c and since I started, it has been fantastic.
To hold in every position required for a shave, to turn, to change the blade it has been a dream.
Then I went and bought one..... That is, the mighty Merkur vision 2000

What a monster!
I waited a couple of days until I really needed a good shave, loaded it with a new Feather blade and went in!

What can I say, from the first WTG stroke it cleaned off the whiskers as if they were never there.
I only needed 1 WTG and 1 XTG to get a good to very good shave. With my 38c I went WTG the XTG then finally ATG. Thais would give me a BBS shave.

I chickend out of the ATG with my 2000 I did nick myself and diddn't want to push my luck.
Any way, for now I have gone back to my 38c. I found that I stopped breathing when the 2000 is in my hand, I can relax and enjoy the 38c.
I have yet to figure out the best adjustment setting for the 2000. For now it is about "S"

Will try again at the wek end.....:w00t:

I had one. Sold it when I moved over to straights exclusively. But I agree, it's quite a piece of great-shaving engineering!

Not only does it shave great, nothing and I mean no D/E sounds so good. It seems like you hear every hair cut. GREAT

Ah yes, the VISION 2000 DE. Nothing else sounds like it. Built for a man(with the complexity of a woman.)

Yay, I get to be the first voice of dissent. :w00t::w00t:

It's a monstrous joke of a razor!! It's about twice the size it needs to be. :mad3:

The money you waste on this overpriced *** could buy a really nice straight, and strop.:thumbup:

That would be a much better value for your investment, as the Vision will break eventually.

Hi
Now the straight razor is what I am working up to.
I want to get one and have a go.
However next week I have to go to London for work. If all goes well I will make an appointment to call into Trufit & Hill and have a shave, with a straight razor. I will pick up as much info as possible may be buy one and man up and do it! :bored:

Andy, I am curious to know if T and H does their straight shaves on customer's with a Shavette (a disposable blade straight), or a real deal straight razor. They are two different beasts. :tongue_sm

Hi John
I will ask when I get there.
It looks like I am going on the 20th. So, no shave the day before.

Always fancied one of these but the price.................

My advice? Don't. I share Michiganlover's voice of dissent.

I started with the Vision, thinking the axiom, "you get what you pay for" would hold true. Often touted as an engineering marvel, the Vision is a mass produced cast piece that is subject to varying tolerances. For weeks I tried to convince myself that I was getting superior shaves, but my HD and Slant provided a superior shave on all levels. I felt uncomfortable selling the lackluster performer, so I ended up giving it away, with a clear conscience.

This is not an attack on anyone who uses, and likes, their Vision. If it's doing it for you, that's great. If it isn't, you're not alone.

Don
