Vintage shaving ads

I just posted another thread, pointing to the same page, but it looks like you beat me to it.

There's no need for two threads. I just tried to (unsuccesfully) delete mine, so I'll refer members here for discussion.

BTW, did you find that with StumbleUpon?

I saw it when Lifehacker picked it up, which my Google Reader picked up via RSS.

Totally - got my Lifehacker tips, news, cigar reviews, and webcomics all in one place! Plus I have a pretty good # of friends that use it too so we share a lot of articles of mutual interest which is always nice.

Oh forgot another question I had for the group and this thread's followers may know the answer -

I recently adopted a set of shelves in our bathroom as my shave den. They're only about 5 inches deep so they're not very practical for usual storage but perfect for displaying rows of AS / soaps / creams / razors / etc (pics here)

What I want to do is put something up on the inside of the cupboard doors. I think a collage of these vintage shave ads would be perfect.

My question is does anyone know how I would go about getting these vintage ads printed on a suitable type of paper? Maybe newsprint? Glossy? I'm not terribly picky about any specific type of paper but the usual printer paper I think would rather be a waste of the allure.

Take your question and a link to the ads you want printed to a place like Kinko's or any of the myriad of professional printshops. They will know how to do it, and will probably have (or be able to order) the right kind of paper.

Love these old ads. There's some seriously cool artwork too. Check out the babes from the 50s... I was born too late :mad3:

Thanks for posting!

Cool site. As a side note, what's shaving powder? I had thought it was a depilatory powder. Guess not. Is any brand of this stuff still out there? Might be fun to try.

That is a great little collection. I may try and print out a few on photo paper and put them up in my bathroom.

Damn, those Barbasol chicks are smoking!:tongue_sm

I know, that's why I had to give the Barbasol Pacific Rush Aftershave a rest...A guy can only handle so many Barbasol Babes flinging themselves at him.:w00t:

'Course, those Barbasol babes look a little different now, fifty years down the road.

Shaving powder was re-born as a depilatory long after soap companies quit producing soap powder for shaving. You were right -- at least for the last half century!

Oh, man . . . my wife cannot see this advertisement considering our first child is due later this month.

Then again, what if there's big shaving cream news?
