Vintage safety razor with secret compartment

I saw this razor on ebay, this is what the seller says about it:
This razor has what I think is a hidden compartment for cash or whatever - I doubt if the end would pull of for no reason.

is this an old type or a laurel open comb? i have the laurel open comb (looks exactly like this to me) and the bottom does come off like that, ive looked at it through loupe and a stereo microscope and cant see any signs indicating that it has broken free or ever been attached. i too wondered what it was for.

Is the top of the handle watertight, and is the opening in the bottom large enough to hold a styptic pencil? Can't imagine what else it might have been for but that's a logical guess.

These handles are prone to cracking. Once that happens, there's not enough tension to hold the bottom and top on tightly - that's what's going on here. I have one just like it.
