Vintage Gillette Razors

Flea Market, Antique Store, Estate Sales, Here in BST, and The Bay

You?

I haven't purchased one yet. I'm still looking. Which is kind of the point of this thread. I'm looking for places to look. Other than ebay. Cause you know. No brainer ebay would have some.

Lately I have been getting some very nice old Gillettes from a guy in Bulgaria.

Oh? There a website he operates out of or is this a friend?

@Miesterio pm me your address If you are CONUS I will PIF you a nice old Gillette to get you started on your road to RAD.

Isn't that like saying, "Here is some free heroine. Just try it. One time won't hurt you. You will like it the way it makes feel."
BTW, that is a sweet looking NEW ...

I was going to say that my first vintage Gillette came courtesy of the now-defunct "never-ending PIF" thread, so it's fitting that Gary puts out that awesome offer here...

PS Gary, I'm not sure where you are in SoCal but if you come across a big score from your secret source in Bulgaria and feel like sharing I'd be happy to split shipping with you!

The Bulgarian guy is not a secret. I will pm you a pic of his business card so you can contact him and hopefully score some sweet razors yourself the only thing about the Bulgarian Gillettes is that they are all made in England Gillettes which is a good thing. Apparently back in the olden days English Gillettes were shipped to Bulgaria in mass quantities. The shipping from Bulgaria to the US is never more than $10.00 with a 10 day delivery on average arrival.

Thats not bad from shipping from Europe. Does where the razor was made matter? Or were they all built to the same quality standards?

English Gillettes are a bit pricier and harder to get your hands on. I am a safety razor novice so my knowledge on the differences between English and US razors is nil. If you need any questions answered or advice post them in the forums there are a few dozen bonafide experts here that will answer your questions.

Yes, that's exactly what it's like. Come to think of it, that's a big part of Gillette's marketing strategy to this day. I remember them sending me a free razor for my 18th birthday. "No, man, this one's on us. Just give it a try...."

I get my vintage razors fromjunk shops, charity shops and eBay.
I have a gold plated Made In England NEW LC which is a magnificent shaver, and I'm reliably informed that the British NEWS are rather more aggressive than the US ones.
I also have a thin handle Canadian Old Type and it is shockingly aggressive, apparently more so than the British and US standard handled versions.
