Vintage Ebay score unusual John Watts Safety Razor

Made a quick and generous offer to get this, I thought I recognized it as an early safety pre-Kampfe but after looking it up in my Waits book I think it to be 1902 ish "Watts Ideal Safety razor model 1044" No tin but a rare razor so I grabbed it well under what I think it is worth. These types started out as pig scrapers in the mid 1800's and not a bad setup for an early safety. Here is an ad and patent info from the Waits book.

Wow. Really nice. I grew up in Fort Worth with its Stockyards. I saw a few pig scrapers as a child. One of my college professors worked there whilst going to college, burning bristles off of pig snouts. We humans have shaving pretty easy...assuming pigs would want to shave.:a38::a38::a38:

That is an interesting Tool, I have never seen one or heard if one, since I have always been a City Boy I guess I missed out on some good things. Can you shave with it?

Thanks for sharing.

a pig scraper is used to remove the hair from a pig during slaughter. they scald the pig carcass with boiling water and then scrape the carcass to remove the hair. the boiling water helps the hair to turn loose. after this butchering begins. i have slaughtered a few in my younger years.

You could with a sharp wedge blade but wedge blade razors are collectible for me not practical for shaving.
