Veterans Day...

Please take the time to thank a Veteran if you know one. Also, if you know someone currently serving, please remember to say thank you to them. I'm a Disabled Veteran myself so today is always a special day to me along with Memorial Day.

Unfortunately I am out of town and a long ways from home currently. So have a wonderful day today to my brothers and sisters of the Armed Forces. Whether currently serving or have served at some point.

Thanks for posting this Mr. Peat. I was glad to see someone start a Veteran's Day thread. I'd like to thank you for your service. I'd also like to thank my Father, Uncle, Grandfather and cousins. In addition I'd like to thank all B&Bers who are serving or have served in the US military. I frequently take the time to thank young troops when I'm traveling or on leave. I seldom mention my own service because deep down I just want them to know they are appreciated.

I agree, thank a Vet. Veteran's, today is your day.

Happy veteran's day to all who have served or are serving. These men paid in moments of their lives, some even with their lives, for what we all have today. Good show gents, and thank you once again.

A heartfelt "Thank You" to all veterans past and present for the sacrifices made on behalf of a grateful country.

Great post Mr Peat and a very happy Veterans Day to you and all members of the military both past and present for your service, thank you it`s appreciated more than you could know! :001_smile

Whenever I think of Veteran's Day, this song comes to mind...

Brothers In Arms - Dire Straits

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be

Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptism of fire
I've watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher

And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die

But it's written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

ouch

On November 11, 1999 Terry Kelly was in a drug store in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the stores PA asking customers who would still be on the premises at 11:00 AM to give two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us.

Terry was impressed with the stores leadership role in adopting the Legions two minutes of silence initiative. He felt that the stores contribution of educating the public to the importance of remembering was commendable.

When eleven oclock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the two minutes of silence to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect.

Terrys anger towards the father for trying to engage the stores clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was channeled into a beautiful piece of work called, A Pittance of Time.

A pat on the back and a handshake to all who have served and are serving their nations now. Thank you for protecting the freedoms which we may take for granted. Have a great day!:badger::badger::badger:

My profound thanks to all the brave men and women who have fought for our freedom.

Is that a red poppy adorning your avatar? Nice touch. It is Remembrance Day in the UK too.

It is indeed. The Royal Canadian Legion puts on a lapel poppy campaign in Canada every year since 1922 to raise awareness and raise funds that they use to provide bursaries and scholarships to children and grandchildren of Veterans and ex-service members.

I generally run that as my avatar in any forums I frequent from Nov 1st to Nov 12th.

I feel a strong connection to the day and those that served because November 11th is also my birthday and without them I wouldn't be here.
