VDH Question, don't laugh

On my next VDH luxury puck, I want to make sure it doesn't move in the bowl it is assigned to. Being glycerin I know you can microwave it to mold it to the mug. My problem is, I don't own a microwave. I chucked mine out in '05 and haven't looked back. I either use stove top, or an electric hot air heater to heat/re-heat my food. So my question remains, how do I melt it without a microwave?

I think I have 1 or 2 little 3" cast iron skillets I could dedicate for this purpose, and gently warm it up. Will it melt like butter?

double boiler. metal bowl that is just big enough to not fit completely into sauce pan add water to sauce pan put metal bowl on top and soap in that bowl the steam will heat the bowl and melt the soap.

edit: its VDH light a match and hold it under the puck and then stick it to your desired bowl like a candle stick in a holder.

If you have a steamer this should also work.

Put the soap in the bowl you want it to form into then put that into a steamer and let er rip :001_smile

Ah. I do have a steamer. I will try that method as I don't have a double boiler.

You might want to leave the lid off to avoid getting too much condensation dripping into the soap.

You only need to heat the bowl and soap to get it to melt, not cook it.

Remember it is soft soap, not broccoli :001_smile

You can make a double boiler. Its done on the stove top the same way you melt chocolate. You fill a small pot a little under halfway with water and place a glass/metal bowl on top of the pot, making sure the water in the pot does not touch the bottom of the bowl. Place your soap into the bowl and bring the water in the pot up to temperature. The steam slowly heats the bowl, melting the contents. All you need to make a double boiler would be a pot, bowl, water.

I usually just get the bottom wet and give it a good push into the bottom of the bowl. It might break loose during the first shave, but it's good to go after that.

Instead of melting it, consider just grating it with a cheese grater and packing it into the bowl as tightly as you can. After it gets wet and dries out a few times it should stick together just fine.
