Vaseline on a Straight Razor

Are there any known issues with using a petroleum jelly on a razor blade?

Here's my reason:

I recently bought a Curley's Frameback with a removable blade. The frame itself is a cylinder and the blade is mounted on a brass rod.

After cleaning everything up, the blade is...fairly loose inside of its housing. A solid flip of the wrist will send it flying out.

Although I'm all the movie Phantasm, I'm not trying to re-enact it in my bathroom.

So, I'm trying to think of some solutions. Figured globs of vaseline would act like axel grease and help hold the blade fast.

Thoughts and/or alternatives?

maybe a thick hair pomade like murrays superior would work but i wouldnt really trust that hold the blade during a shave. thats just me though.

In the photo in the linked thread the blade is in backwards. It was also broken at some point, which is why it's now too short for the holder, and that peg sticking out from the end of the slot (just in front of the thumbnotch) looks like a fragment of the old blade. Anyway, it's likely that if you put it in the right way then it will fit better.

Failing that, then you should either solder it or epoxy it in. Unless it has a threaded plug at the end of the cylinder then the blade wasn't intended to be removed. You can also peen the frame so it has a narrower gap (take the blade out when you do this, and take it slow).

After the blade is affixed solidly then you can grind the frame back so it's the right length.

Unless you can figure out some way of really mounting the blade properly forget it. I wouldn't be shaving with a blade that is loose like that and wouldn't be relying on some gunk to hold it in place. Try using epoxy or something or remove it altogether and see what the issue is.
