Van der Hagen Glycerin Shaving Soap Video "Review"

Just a look at the stuff if you haven't a clue about it:

Nice review and thanks for taking the time to put this together. I am new to wet shaving and appreciate the insight as I am picking up different soaps/creams to see what I like.

Have been using the VDH soap that came with bowl and brush currently (not glycerin though) but have some others inbound to give a shot to try some other options.

Keep up the good work!

I think the scent is "amber" is it not?

Also, is it true that the Deluxe is just a mix of the Glycerin, and the Select soaps? I really like the Deluxe.

Yeah totally. I have a lot more coming up. So far there's 5. 2 uploaded and 3 waiting. Plus a bunch more I haven't filmed yet.

Thanks mantic :biggrin1: You're the reason I started wet-shaving in the first place.

Beat's me. I just know eucalyptus and sandalwood. I think I just read oat on the box

The scent of VDH is usually described as Grey Flannel cologne.

I have heard that, don't know if it is 100% true, but it would seem like it. The Glycerin, and Deluxe perform similar for me, but I prefer the Deluxe by a small margin.

Xezmer, thanks for making the video. I am sure some newbies will find it helpful.

Also Van Der Hagen has been around for perhaps 5 years of so. Prior to that the company was known as Surrey, and they existed all the way back to the early 1970's (perhaps before, I don't know their full history).

You know, my little brother got a bottle of gray flannel from my aunt when my uncle passed and when he sniffed the soap he mentioned that it smelled like that. I should've mentioned it, he was pretty right on, and so were you.

I think the deluxe passed on the glycerin, I could be wrong however.

And personally, the deluxe ain't my favorite of the 3.

Before then, I believe. My mom says her dad used Surrey soap for years. VdH company is family owned and claims to have been American soapmakers since the early 1900s.

Great review, man! I was never really interested in VDH before--I had a bad experience with Williams, and the VDH price tag made me kind of group the two together. Now I think I'll go ahead and give it a shot sometime. Thanks for posting! Hope to see more later on.

All 3 VDH soaps are glycerine based. I like them all. Glycerine (Amber) I've found is good for face-lathering. The other two (Pink and White) I just lather on the puck. It's so cheap I don't really care that I use that much. I haven't had the Amber in some time as the Walmart I found it at stopped carrying it. White (Select) is at Rite Aid. Pink (Deluxe) is at Walmart and Walgreens in the Cleveland area.

The select has glycerin? This I did not know. I thought it was only the deluxe (if at all) and the glycerin (obviously, it's the name).
