Van der Hagen Badger vs Vulfix 1000a including pics

Hello all!

I'm one year into making the switch, and as you all know I will never go back to that over priced facial lawnmower, and over-priced gels, and department store disasters.

I went from being a graduate student who looked the part (shaving once a week and dreading every second of it; razor bumps, and general irritation)....to a professional student who looks forward to shaving EVERY day of the week!

Razor and Blades: My first and only razor is the Merkur 23c, and I love it. I initially held onto my bad habit of shaving once a week, which made the process more enjoyable and a little less rough on my face. So I thought maybe switching from Merkur blades to Feather may do the trick! But they were too sharp and I found myself grabbing for the alum block more than ever. So I increased my frequency of shaves, and went back down in sharpness to the Merkur blades and eureka the solution for my beard, and skin type.

Creams: I know creams are easier to work with from the forum, mantic, shaving101, and geofatboy so I decided to pay homage to my British roots and limited discretionary expenses and settled on Taylor of Old Bond Street, over the year my rotation includes Eton, Sandalwood, Jermyn St Sensitive and Lavendar. I use CO Bigelow (proraso) for travel.

Brush: I couldn't wait, so I went to Target and bought the Van der Hagen brush...it being my first brush I wasn't used to the smell, so in my noobie attempts to remove the wet dog scent I ruined the brush. So I went back and bought the brush again, but this time I just lived with the scent and eventually it went away! But even now hairs keep coming out. So I thought maybe I can graduate to a slightly more expensive brush and still improve how I lather. So I ordered the Vulfix 1000a a solid starter brush from what my research tells me.

Finally, now my question!
When I compare the Vulfix to the VdH in size, bloom length and "scratchiness" to the VdH brush it seems to come up a little short. The first shave was quite good! and it was noticeiably easier to lather with using load/hydrate. But the Vulfix definitely left my face feeling scratchy after the shave, but could that be attributed to it being a brand new brush and that feeling will decrease over time and shaves? Also the number of hairs seems to be less than the VdH. I could be interpreting all this wrong, so please advise! and Thanks in advance!!

Sorry I don't know how to invert the images...
