Valet strop care

Since the local drug store hasn't carried Valet AutoStrop strop dressing in many years :) , what should we use to treat the strops to keep them healthy?

A very light dressing with any good leather conditioner will do it for regular maintenance.

Neetsfoot oil is a heavy dressing used mostly for leather that gets outdoors use, like saddles and tack. But, some folks do like it for strops.

One of my favorites is Lexol, not too heavy and not quite as messy as neetsfoot oil.

Just apply some conditioner to a clean soft cloth and gently run it over the strop. Then let it sit and dry in.

Lexol is a mighty fine product, I'll second that. Although be advised that it might take multiple applications to get it to dress old leather correctly, it all depends on how badly dried out the leather is. There comes a point with leather where you can no longer recover it and you can only make it look good again but all functionality is gone.
