Used SE For First Time

I just used an Ever-Ready 1912 for the first time this morning. I loaded it with a GEM Blade. I had a pretty good shave, BBS for the most part after two passes. I had some problems with the angle, though. My neck got a little irritated. It became apparent when I used my alum block For all you avid users of the SE, should the head of the razor be flush with the surface of the skin? Please advise.

It should be a couple of degrees above flush with the skin, depending on the model of Gem (the Micromatic instructions, for example, suggest using it entirely flat against the face).

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to pay more attention to the angle when shaving my neck.
