Used DE Razors

Hi, I recently purchased two Gillette DE razors (or what I believe to be Gillette) from an antique shop. I have posted pictures of both and I am simply wondering if anyone could provide me with any information on the specific model.

The first three pictures are of the first razor and the last two are of the other one. Thank you for any info.

they are good razors, i have the same fat handled tech but in gold,

just remember to give them a good scrubbing, the lady gillette might need a touch with a dremel to remove the rust,

Your Fat Handle Tech is a Canadian, eh?

The 1932 date on that razor refers to the patent date, not the year of manufacture.

They are both very well-mannered shavers and look to be in great shape. Enjoy!!

You'll find that the fat handle Tech is a little light in the handle (it's hollow). You can modify that by putting something into the handle. I've seen people mention cutting lengths of solder and dropping them in or pouring lead shot pellets in. Don't attempt to epoxy the fix in place unless you want it to be permanent. Bear in mind that the shot will pour out the next time that you go to change the blade.

Thanks. How do I find out what year my tech was manufactured in?

Check out Achim's Mr. Razor site Tech page here.

The shape of the slots in the guard plate determine the date range of manufacture. 1939 - 1945 have a rounded triangular shape, while '46 and up are a rounded rectangle shape. In 1951 date codes started to be used, with W=1951, X=1952, Y=1953, Z=1954, A=1955 etc. The date code appears in the upper left-hand side of the bottom of the guard plate. The number on the right-hand side is the quarter in which it was made.

Is it safe to say that mine is the same model as this one pictured from Mr.Razor's site?

Here are some shots of both my razors after a quick cleaning by immersing them in almost boiling water with some vinegar, and by scrubbing with some toothpaste. The first three pics are of my Gillette Lady Blue Handle and the last two are of my Gillette Tech 1938-1941.

In order to disinfect the razors to be able to use them, is rubbing 70% alcohol on them enough? Enjoy, thanks.

Nice cleanup!

I really like the lady gillette. They are fine shavers. The extra long handle is much easier to use.

I don't have the other, but I'd sure like to.

Does this work?

It depends on your level of germphobia. Many of us use a product called Barbicide (or one of several knock-offs: Marvicide, Hydrocide...) as a definitive sanitizer. It can be found for a reasonable price at a Sally Beauty store near you. If you want to avoid that hassle but want to go a step further, either do a soak/scrub with some bathroom tub and tile cleaner or mix up some bleach and water to soak them in for a few minutes.
