Unscented stuff for the otherwise good-smelly man

Hi all.. I'm new.

So I'm a huge cologne fan who just got into wet shaving, and owns a great variety of different scents. What I wanna know is, what do you guys shave/moisturize/aftershave with that doesn't conflict with your cologne?

Thanks.

Welcome, MilkMan Dan! (I LOVE Red Meat, by the way; glad to know I'm not the only warped guy on B&B.)

Anyway, there are lots of options. I've noticed that with most shaving creams, even if they are highly scented, the scent doesn't last after the cream is rinsed off, so I don't worry about my shaving cream interfering with my cologne. If it still worries you, you could use an unscented cream. AoS makes a nice one, and KMF makes a less expensive nice one.

As for aftershaves, I recommend going to www.saintcharlesshave.com and checking out the options there. Hydro is a nice mild aftershave that is lightly scented; leaves my skin feeling great. Mediterranean Citrus is another nice choice. The scent is pleasant when putting it on, but fades away in a few minutes, so it won't compete with your cologne.

Another option would be to scent match, either perfectly or in the same scent family, your cologne and your aftershave. Sometimes I try to layer the same scent family through the whole shave and thereafter, just for fun. For example, I might shave with Trumpers Lime, use SCS Extract of Lime aftershave, and then put on some Monsieur Balmain or Royall Lyme cologne.

I don't think the soap matters much as far as scent goes. I use Tabac and there is no lingering scent after the shave.
As aftershave I use Thayer's Witch Hazel (imported from the US), which doesn't have any scent, followed by The Body Shop Razor Relief (old formulation), which is also more or less scentless.

Nothing to clash with my cologne.

I use Proraso ASB. No scent conflicts at all.

Agreed that the scent of the soap/cream you will fade after the shave and not interfere. I'll also second the witch hazel, whose smell fades as it dries.

If I don't want any remaining smell after shave and post-shave, my routine is Cella Soap followed by alcohol based witch hazel then Thayer's Unscented non-alcoholic which generally leaves my skin pretty moisturized (the aloe?).

Then, it's time to musk up.

If I cant find an AS that will compliment and Cologne (AV goes surprisingly well with Pen's English Fern) I use SCS Med Citrus or Thayers Rose Witch Hazel in the summer and SCS Bay Rum With a Twist or Nievea for the colder dryer months.

I use a bit of witch hazel followed by Nivea which seems fairly scent free. Also use Trumper's Coral Skin food which is excellent stuff. The slight rose scent in it fades fast.

Also on occasion use AOS Lavender or Sandalwood balm depending on which will go better with the scent I'm going to wear. But honestly, the scent in those AOS balms seems to fade pretty fast and I don't think it creates much conflict.

I also have a couple of AS balms matched to frags which really rocks. But it's too pricey to try and do that for every scent I've got.

Agree with others here- the scent of the cream or soap you shave with is irrelevant. It has no lingering scent. It's just scented to rock your world while you shave.
