Morning Gents:
Some of you may have read my posts on my 28 year old brush restoration project last month. For those of you you have not, I used the same Hoffritz Best Badger Brush for a 28 year period, shaving just about every day. When I joined this Forum I started realizing that my 28 year old brush was tired & worn out. I was all set to purchase a new one when some of you suggested that I contact Tony at TGN and do a restoration which I have since done and have posted (with photos) on B & B. OK, now to get to my point............
Since Old Spice has discontinued the manufacture of their shaving soap I have been using Williams. With my worn out old brush I was able to get a VERY THIN lather out of it that was just adequate for shaving, and I did understand the many comments about Williams poor lathering qualities. Fast forward to my new brush....................
The new knot I have on my old brush (Silver tip Grade A from TGN ) has made such a difference in the lather I am now getting from the Williams, I absolutely can not believe it is the same Williams soap! The lather is now thick, rich and luxurious. Here's the best part...... I am NOT spending more than 20 -30 seconds whipping up the lather right in my old OS shave mug. Please don't flame me for this statement, but the lather I am now getting from Williams is "as good or better" than most of the other soaps I have recently tried, including Mama Bear's! Now I will admit that the MB's smells better and has little more lubricity, but the lathering qualities WITH my new brush is UNBELIEVABLE! I only wish I had known about how importance of Badger quality years ago.
Now when I read on the Forum about people getting poor results from Williams or other brands of soaps, I immediately start thinking of what brush they are using. I just wanted to point out and share my experience with you guys just in case you have fallen into the same "use the old brush every single day" rut that I did. I will never doubt how brush quality can make such a huge difference in the quality of a DE shave.
Regards,
D/E Bob
