What's new

TWSBI question

I picked up a TWSBI VAC at a show recently. It was new in it's case, but it initially wrote kinda scratchy.
It appeared to have gotten worse over the weekend and started to bother me, so I looked at it under a loupe. It is obvious why it's scratchy. The tip is cut or ground off center, and the channel between the tines is not cut perpendicular to the face. I'm normally not hesitant to contact support, but it seems almost trivial (if a replacement nib unit was not $25). No amount of fiddling will fix'er up.

What would you do if you were me?

Quick update:

Contacted TWSBI by e-mail and received a response in two hours. The problem nib I have appears to be of the old manufacture and not the new Jowo brand. They've offered to straighten it out; zero problems.

PS. I would recommend a TWSBI to anyone "on the fence."

That's great to hear! Feel free to join us in the Team TWSBI forum.

The replacement nib is excellent. Like night and day in comparison.
My suggestion would be to consider returning any pen that has old Bosh nib unit.

I was going to suggest that this might be the problem, as there was a big thing about the nib's on the 700's at first, and they now ship with the new ones. Glad to hear they already have you set though.

I have had a similar problem with one of my TWSBI's. However I contacted customer service and they were very quick to respond and Philip went out of his way to help. I have since purchased three additional TWSBI's (a second 540, a Vac700 and a Mini). They have all been fantastic pens and I have always gotten fast and informative responses from customer service if I had a question.

On a side note, the 1.5 Stub for the Vac700 is FANTASTIC!!!

Not wanting to steal the topic, but I also have a Vac700 acquired some months ago, with a 1.5 stub and a extra fine nib - has anyone here experienced this behaviour ? :

- as I write with it, after a little while, the nib starts getting drier and drier, like if it was running out of ink - until it almost does; the solution is to actually unscrew the back of the pen and move the plunger a little back and forth - then I notice a bubble of air actually move up the body of the pen, like the ink wasn't flowing to the nib section. After that, it'll write nicely again, until a little while later it does the same. This happens with both nibs. Has anyone else experienced this issue ?

Thanks for any help!

Had a similar problem, talked to customer service about it. Seems the Vac works on a vacuum (I know, obvious), but there is a vent at the top of the pen where you are unscrewing it. They recommend for short periods of writing you shouldn't have to worry about it, but for longer periods it needs to be vented. Hope that helps.

That makes perfect sense actually now that you mention it, but I wish I'd heard about it before I actually got the pen, I might have decided differently...
